I have a Ridgeback Flight 01 (2012 Model) – (specs are on page 55 of this document – https://www.ridgeback.co.uk/media/catalogues/ridgeback/2012_catalogue.pdf) and I’m looking to install new hydraulic brakes (BR-UR300/BL-MT201) I bought a few months back on sale. I’m looking to buy a new bike in the coming months, but I want to keep this bike for small trips around the city. The bike mostly works fine and still has plenty of life in it, but the single piston brakes that are on the bike are a bit of a nightmare to maintain so I’m keen to get rid of them!
I’ve learned to do some basic maintenance to the bike, but this is my first time doing any work like this. I’d like to do all the work myself but need a little help to make sure I have everything I need!
Here’s some pictures of the current brakes, which are Avid BB5’s
The bike has combination brake/gear shifters, so I’ll need to buy new gear shifters too, i’d likely be looking to buy a SHIMANO SL-M315-8R, and Shimano SL-M315-2L. I’d like to replace the shift cables while i’m doing all this.
The mount is a different size on the new brakes to my old one, which size adapter will I need to fit these on? They’re both flat mount I think!
They both take 160mm rotors, I’d like to install new rotors too (SM-RT26’s).
I think I’ll need to cut the hoses to length (holding up the cable to the bike, they seem quite long), so I’ll be looking for a cutter/plier and also a brake bleed kit.
Luckily my housemate has a lot of bike tools lying around, including a workstand which should make things easier. He has bikes with hydraulic brakes so I may be able to borrow a few things off him.
Is there anything I’m missing/getting wrong? Here’s a purchase list (I’m in the UK so these are all GBP):

if you are opening up the brake hoses in order to connect it back up you will need the brake hose olives/compression fittings. also a bottle of mineral oil to fill back up
What, specifically, do you find nightmarish about Avid BB5 maintenance? That may help us guide you better.
Sorry to break it to you buddy but this brake won’t fit your bike. They are flat mount and your bike is a much older IS Mount. A couple of post to flat mount adaptors exist but not IS to flat mount as far as I’m aware. Happy to be proven wrong on this as I’m intrigued if anyone has a fix!
