So I removed the bottom jockey wheel, and when I did the derailleur sprung forward as if the tension in it vanished. And now when I installed the jockey wheel again the whole derailleur is rubbing against the cassette. What is the problem and how do I fix it so that the derailleur sits further away from the cassette?
Probably mounted the derailleur in the wrong orientation.
Try taking the chain off the front chainring (so that there’s no tension in the chain) or taking the chain off. Then loosen the derailleur, rotate clockwise, then mount it again.
If this is a Sram Apex the. check to see if the lock is still in affect. Under the derailler there will be a button with a lock symbol in it. Press that.
