So, back around 2009 I went overboard and built up a fixie using the most high-end components I could think of (aside from the frame, I used some random Fuji ‘Obey’ collab frame).
The shop I hung out at (Cranky’s in Santa Barbara, if anyone remembers that place) had just got in these black Phil Wood 38th anniversary edition extra high flange hubs.
Only 20 sets were produced in black.
It set me back around $600 at the time. I splurged on them, but unfortunately, they didn’t come with the machined dogtag that shows what number hubset they were.
They are currently mated to a set of Velocity B43’s, have never been laced to anything else, and don’t have much mileage on them (I moved to Europe and my bike has been in hibernation in a protective travel bag in a garage for the past 12 years).
Posting out of curiosity on the value of the hubs. Would love your guys’ input. Thanks!

These were crazy expensive whenever I was building and riding bikes in 2011 and they were still around $600 to $800 at the time. Id imagine probably like $1500 or more especially with low mileage and that special edition. They are super nice and solid, but I have personally always loved White Industries hubs much more. I think they are engineered much more sleek and the bearings had a seamless flushed look that hid them from the elements more. Both were a dream to have laced to the proper hoops.
