I have RaceFace Ambush leg guards that cover knees and ~80% of my shins.

Pros: flat pedal bites aren’t really a thing anymore, don’t really feel any heavier/bulkier than just a knee pad, great for BMX as well.

Cons: my shins now get sweaty in the heat, look more dorky in shorts.

Leatt Airflex Hybrid is very comfortable for a guard with hardshell knee and shin sections. I’ve found that POC guards don’t fit very well.

  3. Knee pads and up until last year, shin pads too. I have scars up and down my shins from typical pedal bites but last summer I had a relatively minor crash. However, I whacked my shin on either my pedal or a rock and split it open. Long pants, pulled up socks were undamaged/no rips but I had about a 3.5″ long by 1″ gash that exposed the same dimensions of bone and tendon. I have pictures but will save you the gore. Anyway, had to ride several miles with my shin bone exposed. 14 stitches and 20 days of antibiotics and I realized it’s worth it to just wear shin pads. I always wear long pants so no one knows…it doesn’t look goofy. Nothing like pulling knee pads down over exposed bone.

I wear these shin guards and forget I’m wearing them. They are super comfortable – TSG Shinguard Samir

I wear Fox Lauch D30 Knee pads. They don’t slide and too are very comfortable.

I ride enduro type terrain in this gear, long climbs, long descents.
