I noticed play in my cassette, it appeared to be the freehub body. Upon inspection it was loose. I can tighten the nut down but I can still see the pawls in the hub. What am I missing with the installation?
Freehub body got loose, now it won’t go all the way into place.

There is a cap that is probably stuck in your cassette. Snap that in place and you are good to go.
In my experience, your pawls are probably sticking out a lot like some pawls do. That means they catch against the outer surface. Try getting a pick or some thin screwdriver to push the pawls in while pushing inwards and rotating the freehub counterclockwise.
Unless there is something stuck in between, which I’m pretty sure isn’t the issue.

Wrap dental floss around the pawls to pull them in, seat the freehub and then pull on one end of the dental floss to pull it out.
