Thanks for comment. We had a great bike ride to Damme, and then went another 4 or 5 mi. down the canal to Sluis. I would highly recommend going to Sluis also. It's a quaint town with a windmill on the main street. I think the whole bike ride from our hotel to Damme and Sluis was around 16 mi. roundtrip. If you want to look at a video of Sluis–it's under Bruges, Belgium–Biking (a picture of a flock of sheep) on YouTube. Have a great trip!!

  2. We did see your video on that as well and it seemed to be even more scenic than the trip to Damme. We are torn as to what to do, since we're staying in Amsterdam and wanted to zip over to Haarlem for a "value added" addition to our trip, then saw your videos, and want to enjoy that as well, but want to keep enough time saved for Amsterdam too. (We're only there for 2 days then it's an overnight train to Prague). We bicycled some in Amsterdam (LOVED IT!) last year, and along the Rhine.

We love to squeeze as much as possible from each trip, so we may end up doing both towns. It's nice to have such great options as these. We took a 7 day Rhine river boat cruise and the courtesy bikes onboard were essentially ours at each stop. (Supposedly we were the first to ever use them) So we rode up to several quaint towns & several castles off the beaten path. Way cool
Quick question….where should we pick up a good map so that a 16 mile ride doesn't become a 50 mile ride?

OOPS. As we are writing down a "loose list" we realized that we were mixing up Haarlem with Bruges. We won't have as much time in Bruges, we fly into Brussels and immediately take a train over to spend the rest of the day there, and then have to go back and check into our hotel, so now we're not sure how this will all work out. In any event, we'll have a great time, rain or shine : ) Life is good.
