There was a discussion recently regarding a 90s GT in which MULTIPLE people were saying that there’s no such thing as fakes. This is blatant misinformation and is actually becoming somewhat of a problem to people who are just getting started with older BMXs. This is my 1985 Performer and my 1998 Villain. Except they’re not because they’re both fakes, fakes that repeatedly fool people who have nostalgia for these old bikes but aren’t experts, the villain isn’t even a desirable bike (yet), people do this A LOT because it’s easier to sell a Mongoose than a Ruption.

Also adding that I’m not responsible for either of these bikes, I bought them as you see them, I bought the “mongoose” (Ruption LX) because I found it interesting that someone would go through so much effort as to even have correct badging and mags on the bike, and the Performer had other potential buyers actually convinced it was real, I only bought it for the skyways

On the GT it is easy to see that the top tube doesn’t extend past the seat tube which was switched from a slant to straight very in 1983 or 1984 if I remember correctly. First released on the GT Mach 1.
The mongoose I am not sure about but back in my days the rear triangle was rounded at the back but I’m not sure about later.
Almost had me on the fake GT because that yellow frame is attractive as it was back in 1985 and so on
Good frames don’t have kickstand mounts.
