My Son’s Jett did the same thin in the back. Love the bike otherwise I think it’s the best band for the buck for a kids bike.

Go to your LBS (local bike shop) and ask them for a brake cable end cap. Carefully re-twist the wires until they’re bunched enough that you can slide a new cap over the cable, and then crimp it tight!
Might as well buy a handful of the end caps to keep around, they fall off/break occasionally.
Looks like the cable end cap came off and the cable got frayed. You can try to twist the cable and get another cap on it, but as frayed as it is it likely will not fit a cap back on it. Option 1 would be to replace the cable. Option 2 would be twist it back up as well as you can and use some electrical tape or shrink wrap on it to hold the cable from fraying again.

Re twist it crimp a new end on. Alternatively If you’ve got some electrical terminals floating around crimp on of those on. Or wrap some tape around it until you can get something more permanent

I usually bend that part of the cable in a direction that won’t annoy the rider.

Twist it back up and dip/cover it in super glue. That’s what I do and they stay good for years.
FYI once you get the cable re-capped, you can bend it and tuck it behind the brake spring. Most V-brakes have a little tab back there that will hold the cable out of the way.
