So I just moved to East Bay, California from Australia and had preordered a Brompton so that I had transport to work as soon as I arrived. The bike is lovely but I ordered the 3 speed. I’m only just now discovering how hilly this place is! What are my options for more gears at this point? Help. My knees are buckling.

You can replace both the front chainring and the rear sprocket for very cheap. I run a 44t front and a 15t rear and have no problems with hills any more.
No way to exchange it?
Steep inclines also mean nice … go down fast ones.
You may be able to return it and buy a higher speed model like one of the explores
