A 10 minute bus ride from Bristol city centre, Ashton Court, is perfect for a big dose of fresh air! Join me for a winter wander around the ground and see what is on offer in terms of activities.

The estate used to be home to the Smyth family. The grounds were designed by Humprhy Repton.

Hi everyone and welcome to Ashton Park railway station here in Bristol actually it’s not a real rway station it’s it’s a Miniature Railway Station and it’s at Ashton Court here in Bristol so I’ve just come over here on the best of day from Wellington and I

Just love coming out to Ashton cor every time I come out here I find something new to do this is the first time I’ve actually explored this area of it so what I’m going to do is I’m going to go around take some footage and I’ll show

You where I’ve been I’m not going to do a guided walk because uh it’s quite vast here and I’m flitting all over the place but I’ll show you some of what I see and I hope you enjoy it and it helps you plan a trip for yourselves as well if

You want to come here now I’ve been to Ashton Court many times mostly when I was a tiny toddler and maybe a bit older as well but I have very few memories of it but it’s absolutely gorgeous here I used to come with my grandparents they

Lived down the road in Abbott Lee when I was growing up so it’s 850 Acres of Woodland and grassland and there’s many activities here there’s normally no to get in and there’s three car Parks I’ll put some details of the bus routes and the walking options and cycling options

In the description box underneath this video so just to clarify when I said that I got the bus from Wellington to Ashton Court I got the bus in Wellington I got the Falcon bus and that dropped me off in Anchor Road in Bristol just by the harbor side and I got straight onto

A bus which was heading towards porter head the X4 and I got off at the University stop by the Ashton Court which is the next stop after Ashton gate Stadium you can also get here VI the Clift and suspension bridge you can walk across that and I’ll show you the

Entrance where you would come in if you were doing That in the winter the gates are locked at 5:15 so do check the website for closing times cuz I think they vary throughout the year as soon as I arrived at Ashton Court I decided that I wanted to go and see the red deer first of all

As they were very close to the entrance but unfortunately the Deer Park paths were closed and I couldn’t get up close to them but I heard a couple in front of me saying that they knew a different way so I followed them through some Woodland area I didn’t actually get quite close

To the deers but it was a lovely walk I did actually get a few clips of The Red Deer when I visited here in April so I’m going to put a few clips of them in here now there are so many options here at Ashton Court as to which direction to go

In but I decided before exploring much more of the estate that I would go and have a nice coffee and a bit of lunch in the coffee shop by the Gulf Area oh it’s just the most beautiful November day for a walk around Ashton Court at the moment I’m heading down to the fallow deer park and also to the mansion general direction oh it’s just looking so stunning today it is the very end of November and it’s beautiful autumn

Colors on the trees and it’s so Sunny we’ve had a lot of rain and cold miserable weather recently so this is just glorious I’d love to do this one day the Treetops I just walked past it earlier actually it’s in the woods and it’s like a high high ropes course and lots of

Treetop Adventures sounds brilliant and there’s lots of shrieking children down there sound like they’re having brilliant Fun lovely view there over to Ashton Court stadium and just in the distance I don’t know if you can make hour there’s a hot air balloon I think Ashton Court is also home to the Bristol Balloon Fiesta and that takes place every summer for a few

Days I was just looking on the internet why Bristol is so famous for its ballooning and there’s absolutely loads of information I think I’m going to have to do another video to tell you all about why Bristol is associated so much with hot air ballooning so they look out

For that one in the Future Oh look I couldn’t get to the red deers to get them very closely on camera but look I’ve got the phow deers here in the fow deer section of the park just beautiful the Deer Park is over 600 years old and the person who created it

Had to get a special license from King Richard II to created in 139 Tre so as I mentioned these are fallow deer and they’re not native to Britain but they were bought here by the Normans and they were bought here after 1066 so just coming into VI now that yellow Mansion ahead of us is the Ashton Court Mansion you might be thinking that you recognize this Mansion here at Ashton Court and it could be because you’ve seen it on TV it’s been used as a filming location for Sherlock Holmes and

It’s also been a venue for the Antiques Road show at the moment it’s leased by Art Space lifespace which is an Arts organization and they sometimes host Arts events and they open those up to the public you might notice that the South face of the Mansion isn’t symmetrical

The left side was built in 1632 and the right side was built in 1810 and they were both built according to the fashions in their IRS I’ve got some lovely clips from the spring so I’m just going to insert a few of those in here now for you you to Enjoy it is really cold actually it’s lovely lovely weather it’s so sunny here but my fingers are freezing and my batter is running out on my phone so before I can record anything else I need to charge that up so what I’m going to

Do is I’m going to go and see if the cafe is open down at the mansion house and just get a hot drink oh yes the Courtyard Cafe is open I’ve never managed to get here before and it’s open but success a day I’m going to go for a hot

Drink so just before I leave and get the bus back into Bristol just having a little walk around the gardens around the mansion house look at the beautiful colors of the trees here just in front of me is some steps so I’m going to be very

Careful I’m not going to do any more talking at this point because Look lots of steps oh look I can see the ice sculpture type of things let’s go and have a look at those I think these made from ppcs but really really pretty go a bit closer really like this okay and show you the other one as Well loads of places to sit down here and enjoy the scenery just beautiful place to relax you could never get bored here really and of course it’s always changing with the different seasons now to me this sculpture looks like a crown don’t know what you think or Cathedral or something

I’ll show you on the top of it what I mean oh it’s just so pretty this is the Round Pond very pretty I’m doing this bit quite fast because the the light is starting to go Now well for the last half an hour I’ve been trying to find the gorm and the ice house and I’ve walked around in a massive Circle my map breeding rities are not very strong at all so anyway if you come here have a look for the gorm and the ice

House I think they’d be really interesting to look at but sadly I can’t show you them because I can’t find them I’m going to end this video here thanks so much for watching I’m going to get the Buss back into Bristol now just a few minutes away so yeah keep an eye out

On the channel for more videos from all around the southwest of England I do all sorts of things from coast paath walks to munion houses to Christmas FS I’m going to go and film one of those next in Bristol a Christmas Market so look out for that in the next few weeks and

So much more besides lots of beaches as well in the summer so yeah keep an eye out and I’ll see you in the next video thanks so much for Watching

  1. The Goram is here @5:00 bottom of shot, you probably walked right past it but it's not easy to spot from the path. Lovely video, I remember walking my dog here when I lived in Bristol. Lovely place😊

  2. What a beautiful place Louise!

Lovely seeing deer in a busy city.

The Court itself looks huge! Really loved the gardens as well as the landscape of the park.

A really charming and relaxing video. You had some great weather then for your walk. Some great facts about it too.

I don't know what the connection is to Bristol and hot air balloons either, so I would be really interested to see that video.

Thank you for taking us around Ashton Court Estate.

  3. If it's still there the Goram is up on the hill between mansion house and the upper path towards the exit near the suspension bridge but I don't think it was there last time I went past it's usual location.

I think the miniature railway only operates on Sundays and interesting to hear about the treetop adventure, this sounds like fun (if I wasn't scared of heights!)

I love the varied walks you can do across the estate, love the walk through the trees which goes around one of the deer parks, shame the internal paths were closed though.

  4. Hi Louise, Well I didn't know that was there and I've stayed a few times just over the other side of the bridge!! What a great trip out that was. Well done!!

Having the deer so close reminded me a bit of Richmond Park in London.

Just to the north of us we have the Cazorla national park (one of the first, if not the first) where you will find deer roaming wild if you look carefully. On returning from a walk late evening we were aware of a small group almost following us. Our walk ended at a bar where the owner emptied out some food into the bushes and the deer came straight down for it!! On another occasion we were able to hand feed a fox which just appeared out of the nowhere

Perhaps it's not such a good idea to be able to mix freely with them?

    Have a great week!!

  5. Lovely place Louise. Did you say you filmed this in November? 😊 So nice to see the deer in the park. The views are amazing from the top of the hill. Oh wow, that's a grand mansion. So interesting to learn about where it's been featured. I do feel like I've seen it before! Stunning courtyard cafe setting and gardens with the sculptures. The cathedral looks like Elsa could live there from the movie Frozen 🩵
