as long as the arm is supported in the axle well, it’s not super critical, but from a point of view of just a nice well balanced setup keep as reasonably close for the arm/chainstay gap.

On my old bike it was about a millimeter no kidding and i never had problems. As long as your cranks are coming loose and wobbly you’ll be good

The crank gap should always be set anywhere from 1 to 1.99 Perfect. Because anything more than that would be 2 Perfect and that’s kind of self explanatory. 💁🏽♂️ Hope this helps.
