New frameset arrived today, Giant Revolt advanced pro 2024, ive not had a carbon frame before and I’m completely thrown by the lack of headset cups!

The bearings fit nicely into the frame and I can’t find anything to suggest whether the frame has an integrated HS or not – so I’m assuming it is. website does say the frame comes with a headset and nothing else is missing so all clues point to integrated!

There is no traditional crown race but there is this aluminium thing… website does say the frame comes with a headset and nothing else is missing so all clues point to integrated!

Any clues as whether my frame is indeed IS or what this aluminium shim thing is would be appreciated!

  1. The crown race is integrated. Lower bearing goes directly on that.

The split ring is probably the centering ring for the top bearing.

  2. Working-Promotion728 on

The silver bit goes on top of and into the top bearing. It’s upside-down in the photo, so pull that off the fork, slide the fork into the frame, and put the silver bit on top of the headset. There’s probably a dust cover to go on top of that as well.

  3. Definitely an IS headset, also with the crown race molded into the fork. Bearings go directly in the frame, fork goes straight in without anything between it and the lower bearing. the silver bit is the compression ring that goes above the top bearing/below the headset top cap

  4. Carbon steerer with crown race integrated, split ring is for compression of the system. Headsets went from external threaded to thread less to semi integrated to integrated.

  5. You should probably have someone assemble this for you or if possible ask someone who knows how to assemble bikes watch/help you do it.
