I’m thinking of dropping some money into my 80’s Calborn mtn bike and taking it on some mild/intermediate bike packing trips.
This will be my first gravel/bikepacking bike. Im looking at a new seat, drop handlebars, and maybe some new brakes. Not to mention the packing gear. Any ideas/advice/concerns about using a vintage bike for long distance trail riding?
I’ve been mtn biking for a couple years, but this is my first plunge into bike packing. Any help is much appreciated.

Nice have fun! I like to put my sleeping bag on my handlebars bcuz it’s big and light. I think I recommend paying attention to the fit of the bike. I’m tall so I have to set bars forward and seat back. Also good to have a tool kit. Have fun
It will be a blast these are great bikes for it. I’d skip the drop bars because you’ll need new brakes, shifters, and a stem to fix the fit.
