Looking 2nd hand, mainly on craigslist. Honestly, I get a little overwhelmed by the different brands and models…

My current ride is a Trek 1000 aluminum frame (51cm), which has served me well. I’m hoping to upgrade into a carbon bike with nicer components…

Mainly I ride this bike for fitness/exercise/recreation. Rides range from 20 to 60 miles (so far), with speeds about 17-22 on the flats and up to the 30s on downhills…

I have read that some models are race/endurance, which sounds good to me. I’m often for 2-3 hours, or sometimes more, so something comfy, yet also fast would be great. Fast is important!

Here are some of the listings I have bookmarked:

[Specialized Roubaix 52″ Carbon Fiber Dura Ace – $1,000](https://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/bik/d/santa-monica-specialized-roubaix-52/7703366467.html)

[Trek Madone 5.2 SL Carbon Bike – $660](https://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/bik/d/los-angeles-trek-madone-52-sl-carbon/7704282045.html)

[Trek Emonda S5 52cm – $800](https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/bik/d/agoura-hills-trek-emonda-s5-52cm/7704810575.html)

[2015 CANNONDALE SYNAPSE CARBON 105 6C- PRICE DROP!!!!!](https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/bik/d/los-angeles-2015-cannondale-synapse/7699665740.html)

[Specialized Shiv Sport 2020 Medium Triathlon Time Trial Bike – $750 ](https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/bik/d/los-angeles-specialized-shiv-sport-2020/7705604693.html)

[Trek 5200 OCLV Carbon Race Bike – $650](https://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/bik/d/los-angeles-trek-5200-oclv-carbon-race/7706441984.html)

I think 500-600 would be good on the low end, if I find a bargain or something older, and I could go as high as like… 1250, for something really special…

I’m not in a huge hurry. Willing to wait for the right bike. Anyone have advice on brands/models to look for – or which to avoid?

First three bikes you should avoid like the plague. Super old and way over priced.

Middle two look like great bikes. That 10 speed 105 is fantastic, and honestly some of the best mechanical shifter ever. Really really nice bikes those two. I’d go with those.

The Shiv would be stupid. Do not buy it.

Last bike is like 20+ years old and a rip off.

Stick with the 10 speed 105. Those are two great bikes at a decent price.
