  2. Buy winter cycling shoes is really the only option after 2 hours of riding or switch to flats and wear snow boots.

  3. Merino wool socks or if you wanna be ghetto solution, some plastic bags worn over socks do an amazingly good job.

  4. Shimano makes good winter shoes but you have to try on with bubble socks to see if it fits. Or flats with proper boots as suggested.

Ditch the clipless and get some decent winter shoes/ boots, a size big so you can layer the double socks and still have room in there.

  6. Wrap tin foil (aluminum foil to my American amigos) around your feet.

Clarification: over your socks and under your shoes. Works fantastic

Below -5c I tend to keep my rides to under two hours.

Do you have a set up you can hike comfortably for that long? With flat pedals I’d start there and just give up the clipless efficiency. Not one-for-one, but good starting point.

My neighbor suggested the lake mxz303/304 and I picked some up used last year. Keeps my feet and toes warm, and I like the boot height for snow, nice traction too.

Circulation is important, I wonder if two socks and chemical warmers cramped your toes up too much.

  8. Wrap your socked toes in a single layer of Mylar (emergency blanket material) before inserting into your bike shoes. Does an amazing job of cutting the cold air and radiating heat back into your feet while still letting them breathe.

    Your welcome.

  9. Stop with all this madness. Wool socks and those that fit well and Shimano winter boots. Full stop. If riding long endurance miles bring another pair of so socks and swap. Again for the socks you don’t want a tight fit in the boot with bulky socks. You need air space to breath and warm.

Plastic grocery sacks are massively underrated. Step in the corner of one as you put your foot in your shoe, trim off the excess with scissors. When you don’t have shoe covers, can’t find yours, or find yourself where you suddenly need some, you can always find plastic grocery bags.

  11. For the Mylar idea, GCN notes you can use potato chip/crisps bags in a pinch.

For me, it was always my hands. One year I was given the tip to add another layer to my core. Get that “overheated” and your body dumps that warm blood to your extremities. Made a world of difference.
