So last black friday i decided to upgrade my 2012 Giant XTC Composite 29er (this is the exact model [https://99spokes.com/en-CA/bikes/giant/2012/xtc-composite-29er-1](https://99spokes.com/en-CA/bikes/giant/2012/xtc-composite-29er-1)), and got myself a bunch of parts.

SHIMANO DEORE FC-M6100 crank
SHIMANO SLX RD-M7100 derailleur
SHIMANO DEORE XT SL-M8100 shifter
SHIMANO SM-RT86 pair of rotors
SHIMANO SLX CS-M7100 cassette
SHIMANO DEORE BL-M6100 BR-M6120 front and rear brakes

Now my issue is the compatibility with the hub. The original hub on the bike is the Shimano FH-M525A, which doesn’t have a microspline, so i can’t mount the 12 speed cassette. And from my understanding, i can’t use a microspline freehub either cuz these are old hubs. So i have to replace the rear hub, and found the SHIMANO DEORE FH-MT401 (135mm) hub for $35canadian, and was wondering if this will do the job, or i need something else?

If I do it, I would go with cs-m5100 and the matching shifter/derailleur so I don’t need to mess with the hub. Unless otherwise the original hub is due for replacement.
