Finally got around to mounting my studded tires and noticed some more severe cracking in the sidewall. Now I understand that some is to be expected since pressures are run low and the sidewall is flexing a lot but now it appears that the threads are starting to show which wasn’t the case before. Tire has about 500 miles on it and is stored in a cool dry basement during the summer months. So question is should I replace it? If so, any recommendations on a 27.5×4.0 studded tire with more durable sidewalls?

  1. All brands of fat tires I have had all do this when run at low pressures. It sweats sealant a bit, but otherwise my tires are fine. I keep adding sealant.

  2. My Maxxis tire sidewalls have looked much worse than that for years with and run just fine. Sealant doing it’s job I guess
