I’d hang on to it. Next time you find a freebie, you can combine them to make a rideable bike. It’s cool to see older bmx cruising around, even if it is a department store bike. Keep your eye out for any discarded bikes, and they can be a source for brake cables, chains, etc. Why not build a beater cruiser?
