It looks like you just need a new inner tube. Where I used to work, we would’ve charged £10 + the cost of the tube.
$65 ?? Search how to change inner tube, its the most usefull thing to know in bike world, 65 dollars is almost stealing
Looks like the valve ripped off the inner tube, so you need to replace the inner tube whole.
$65 to replace a tube? Typical labor on that is $10-15 and the tube costs less than $10. Buy a tube and learn to do it yourself. Watch some yootoobs. You need a pump, probably a 15mm wrench (or an adjustable) to loosen the wheel nuts, and most likely just your fingers to remove that tire, maybe a $5 tire lever to help pop it off.
You probably need a new tube. To DIY, you need:
– 1 set of tire levers (like Pedros – $10)
– New inner tube that’s the right size ($10-$15)
– Bike pump with Schraeder valve option (most have this – $50-$100)
Other than the tube, the other two tools will last pretty much forever, and you need to have for bike care 101 anyway.
If you don’t know how to change a tire, now is the time to learn! I promise is SUPER easy once you do it once or twice, and you’ll never need to rely on somebody else to fix a flat ever again!
Judging by the discoloration on the sidewall of the tire, they probably wanted you to replace the actual tire itself as well. $65 is pretty reasonable for a new tire, tube, and labor.

You need to change the inner tube.
If that’s a steel rim and a bolt on hub, that pro-shop is not reading the room. A tube and flat repair is $15-25 and yr out the door.
A better tire is a nice upgrade but is not necessary if the tread and sidewalls are in good shape.

Go to Walmart, buy a Schrader valve tube for $5, and learn to replace a tube yourself.
Just buy an air pump that does shrader valve and presta valve, buy an inner tube and watch YouTube on how to re and re
My general advice is to stop relying on bicycle shops and start doing as much of your own maintenance as you can.
50 years ago, it was a lot harder to learn how to do this stuff but, today we’ve got YouTube and a lot of really good and informative videos on how to do things.
I would suggest checking out Park Tools for videos on maintenance and repairs for your bicycle.
In this instance, all you need to do is replace the tube.
It will require:
*A new tube
*2-3 tire levers
*A bicycle pump
*A tire air pressure gauge
It’ll take you 10 minutes to watch the video and, even if you’re not very mechanically talented, you should be able to pull the tire replace the tube and put it all back together in about 30 minutes.
I’ve seen it done in less than 5 minutes.
I stopped paying bicycle shops to repair my bicycles years ago and I’ve never looked back.

$65 !!! I’m in the wrong business!! Even for a tricky bike with a horrible chain guard and back pedal brake we only charge £30.

About 10 dollars to get a new inner tube than 15 if you don’t have a pump and get the wheel on and off max 5 for wrenches

Is it tubeless or tubed? Thats what we need to know
If its tubed its pretty easy to replace a tube you can just look up a YouTube tutorial
If its tubeless (im not a pro nor do i have a bike with tubeless tires) you’ll need to find a stem and some of the special glue stuff for it again you should check YouTube for how to replace stem on a tubeless tire
OP what did the bike shop say they were going to go for that price.
Everyone is outraged about the price but I don’t believe they’re taking the piss that much. Surely that involved a new tyre or some other work.
Most bikes I work on will have more than one thing wrong with them. Customer usually only came in for one thing but if I find something else I’ll tell them and quote for it. Plus I’ll tell them how urgently I think they should do it. IE you need a new tyre soon, but you’re probably ok for a month or two more. Saves them coming back to the shop and I can often combine labour.
My car mechanic would just do the work and charge me. But ppl love to make bike parts last as long as possible.
The amount of bikes I’ve seen where people have refused fixing potentially very dangerous things is shocking. Luckily dangerous bikes are usually only a risk to the rider.

Fuck those guys, you just need a tube with a schrader valve that’s the right size for your tire. The size of the tire should be on the side of the tire.
Tire levers can help and are nice but you could probably get it done without them. A new tube is like, $15-20 max.
Post that shops name as a PSA…. Nobody should be going there.
If you’re an REI member and buy the tube off the shelf, they’ll change it for free!
Replace the tube, a pair of spatulas should be around 10 bucks, and another 10 for the tube
Based on the price it sounds like they are quoting you for a tire and tube replacement plus labor. That $65 quote isn’t outrageous for that from a shop. Since you say the valve ripped out of the tube, it’s pretty likely the bead on your tire is really loose, even though the tire doesn’t appear very worn. Not uncommon with inexpensive tires. If that’s the case, when you hit the brakes, the tire slides on the rim and tries to take the tube with it. The valve of the tube is stuck through the hole in the rim, so it can’t move with the rest of the tube and ends up tearing off. That’s a pretty common thing to see. If that’s the case and you just replace the inner tube, the same thing will happen again in the future. It’s worthwhile learning how to replace a tube yourself, but if there is more going on with the repair you will want to learn to recognize that also.
Jesus Christ. Did the shop offer to blow you too for $65? For fuck sake. 10 for the time 9 for the tube. Or 9 for the tube, and you change it.
