So I just got my new bike today, and upon closer inspection I suspect that my derailleur might have gotten a hit during shipping. The problem is that the short arm that the derailleur hangs from is completely blocking access to the highest gear and the derailleur, when changed to the lowest that I am able to is scraping against the spokes.

Is there anything that I myself can do at home or do I need to go to a bike shop and have them fix it?

Yes. Your derailleur hanger is bent.

Don’t try to straighten it. The company that supplied the bike should easily be able to send you a new one.

As it was damaged in shipping, you should ask them to pay for a professional replacement if you don’t feel confident doing it yourself. It’s a 5 minute job.

  3. If you got it new like you said and you had nothing to do with the bend complain about it and they should fix it for you hut if not it should only charge £10-£20 still bad though
