tried using a spare 1by crankset and it doesn’t seem like my chain is catching on. I’m very new to this and am not sure if it’s due to the narrow wide chainring on the crank, as I am using a 2by rival rear d and my previous kmc chain. is the chain wrong or not the right length or something else?

ps* the issue is there when I pedal forward too, just doing it backwards for ease of videoing
I’ll spare you the whole “you need a flat top chain” speech because I’ve also used AXS with “incompatible” chains, cranks and cassettes and it ran good enough with meticulous setup. I would check:
* quick link is fully closed
* chain length
what is new? what is old? and what did you change to make that happen?
You have a narrow-wide chainring and need to move the chain 1 link so the outer links are on the wide teeth
Because it’s new.
It’s not about moving chain one link on the chainring, because if that was the case, it would not fully engage anywhere
It’s simply because it’s new and the tolerances are a bit too tight.
Just ride it out. Until it settles, don’t put too much power into the cranks as to not risk damaging anything.
Had the same issue with several bikes I worked with. Usually when riding them there wasn’t any issue.
Simply don’t backpedal for some time

Is the chainring made for 1/8″ chains?
I would agree with riding it out. Once you to it will mesh better
12sp hyperglide+ chains require narrowide rings with special profile teeth, due to long inner links.
if a manufacturer doesnt explicitly note that it is compatible with hg+, then it is incompatible. the chinese junk in the video works with <11sp only
Chains wear with chainrings and your new chainring is not worn like your chain is. A new chain should fix the issue.
It’s a 1/2 x 1/8“ crank set for single fixed gear bikes. Typically problem ~50% are visually „fitting“ on the chainring and the rest not. You need to buy a new chain ring with the correct size for a geared system (1/2 x 3/32“).
Your inner links of the chain (2,38 or 2,18 mm) are not fitting on the teeth of the chain ring, which are made for inner link size of 3,30 mm.
Listen to everyone. A new and correct chain fixes the problem. “Riding it out bro” is the WORST you can do to your new components. It will take material off the cassette and chainring until the chain fits. This will wear the components as if they have done many miles.

If this is axs 12 spd you got wrong chain it looks like 11spd not 12 axs flattop… it’s called flat top because it directional and top of is flat ..
Stop trying to make it work and get correct chain
You need the flat top chain.. As others have mentioned.
