I have restored a classic road bike and my chain skips, with or without under pressure, when I am on the:
1) 7th gear (second largest cog) – big chainring, and
2) 2nd gear (second smallest cog) – small chainring
Surprisingly, there isn’t any noise or problem when I cross-chain.
My drivetrain components are as follows:
– Shimano RD2300 8-speed rear derailleur
– Shimano CS-HG50-8 (12-25) cassette (brand new)
– KMC X9 9-speed chain (brand new)
– Shimano FD2300 2-speed front derailleur
– Goldix 50-34 10/11-speed chainring from AliExpress (brand new, can’t find brand new 8 speed chainring)
The mechanic checked the derailleur hanger and adjusted it as necessary when he set up the bike but didn’t know whether he adjust the derailleur or not.
Any idea or advice to fix the issue? Many thanks in advance for your time.

It might be that nine-speed chain is just a little too narrow on the inside.
I would get an eight-speed chain and see if that resolves it. Chains are wear items anyway and you’ll go through several in the life of the other components, so it’s just a down payment on future maintenance.
With any luck the troublesome cogs will wear enough that the nine-speed chain works, eventually.
