G’day all,

I just wanted to get some thoughts on the damage done to the paint on my bottom bracket by my chain dropping.

It happened some time back, I initially covered the area with clear nail varnish and thought nothing of it. I had a chain drop again recently on the trainer and noticed some more paint chipping.

Tap testing with a coin doesn’t result in any “flat” taps, but I’m still a bit concerned about it at this point.

The bike spends most of its time on trainer, but with Australian summer I’m keen to get outside a bit more.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

  1. Ah man, that sucks…
It’s difficult to tell from just pictures but from what it looks like the damage isn’t too bad. Plus in that area there is a lot of carbon used on frames typically.
    Which frame is it?

  2. That’s nice frame!
As I said I think u should be fine, it looks like the paint took most of the damage.

That’s why there are pieces that can be installed on the dérailleur bolt to prevent the chain to go that way. Do not remember the name. i’m french. That is about 7 centimètres long, half centimètre large with a hole a one of thé extrémités. I’ll put one on all m’y road frames.
