Another “help me choose a white shoe” post 🙂
I need your experience with these two options.
I purchased both to try on. Bontrager lets you actually use them, and if you’re not satisfied you can return no questions asked. Lake only let’s you try on, but not use.
Bont – roomy. Not sloppy, but I really have to cinch down the Boas to get the right fit. So much so that there’s not a lot of turns left. You can see the material bunching a little at the toe box (see images in link)
Use – feels good on the trainer. I did a 15 minute pull at my Z4 and they feel good.
Lake – more snug but not tight. The lockdown feels a touch more secure, maybe a little stiff. My pinky toe is right up against the toe box, but not uncomfortably. I wish I knew how they feel on the trainer. My guess is it’s more of a “race fit” snug, but with some miles could be the perfect fit?
It’s a bit of a big purchase for me. Never spent this much on cycling shoes 😂

I own those Lakes. Freaking love them so much.
They will break in a little bit and conform to your foot. Also, keep in mind they are heat moldable.
If you decide to go with the Lakes, be sure the treat and clean the leather regularly.
I think only you can decide this as everyone is different. They both look good so keep whichever feels better
I have the Bontragers and love them. I use insoles so don’t have issues tightening them. They have become a bit dirty after years of use
Lake is just a better shoe in general. LeMond even rode them back in the day. They are the last stop for a lot of desperate cyclists looking for the dream connection.
