Bought a used wheelset. Setting them up tubeless. Seller’s ad said ID was 25mm, so I bought 27mm tape and taped it up (felt kinda wide though).

Only afterwards I measured it and the ID is closer to 21mm. I’m a little concerned that the tire bead might be resting on tubeless tape instead of mostly on the aluminum rim/bead.

Am I overreacting? Should I take the $15 hit and go get new 25mm tape?

it should be fine. the tape usually provides a better seal with the bead. it will compress under load.

if the tire isn’t seating right, you can try taking a razor and cutting a little off of the tape. should be pretty easy to do, just stick the razor right in the bead line and have at it.

Yes, it will be in the way of the tire bead that needs to fit precisely under the rim lip
