Noticed I can push my cranks in and out a bit as I was cleaning the bike. Is this a preload issue or something else. Everything feels nice and smooth otherwise. Bottom bracket is SRAM PF30 with 3500 miles on it.
It looks like that crankset has a threaded preload adjuster on the non-drive side. If this is a SRAM crankset, loosen the small 2 mm bolt and lightly spin the adjuster until it touches the bearing seal. Just enough to take the back/forth out. Then lightly snug the 2 again.

That much movement suggests a busted BB and possibly even dead bearing races. Even if the preload was perfect, it would t excuse the crank moving sideways in the BB itself.
I am guessing it’s one the crappy SRAM plastic BB setups ? I have up on them years ago as they were useless compared with machines metal third party ones like Chris King.

I’m wondering if the pre-load plastic nut got broken off. Seems like you could see it from that angle. They are very fragile.
