Have any brands – big or small, anywhere in the world – tried to design a monocoque dual suspension mountain bike in the last decade? I’m thinking of a major redesign of the 1995 Lotus, to adopt contemporary mtb tech. There have been a lot of breakthroughs since even 2010, but frames still rely on variations of the diamond frame “safety bike” design that has prevailed over the last 150 years or so. Could a radical alternative prove to be a better way forward?

The reason the triangle design persists is that triangles are strong. Especially now with computer modeling and the variability of carbon layup, options are easy to test. Also, water bottles and storage are no small things to the bike buying public.
