Hey all! Long time lurker, first time poster. I spend most of my time over in r/xbiking. The past few years I’ve been trying to wrestle this bike into existence. Thankfully I found communities here that are genuinely helpful and inspirational and I have been able to make my bike what it is because of them.
This is an old Motobecane 400 HT frame. One of the few from that era – with that classic geometry – that came standard with not only rim bosses, but disc mounts, as well. I jumped on the opportunity and have spent the last month piecing it together. Through a lot of trial and error, I think she’s finally in her final form and dialed in.
Anyways, I built this thing to eat up tarmac, fire roads, and single track. This will also be my bikepacking rig when the time comes.
Let me know what you guys think! I’ll drop the specs & parts list in the comments, if anybody is keen on it.

Wanted a new gravel bike because my hybrid isn’t enough for wild adventures but ended up saving for my future house instead 😅
I’m looking for used deals instead for the past 3 months! Being an adult sometimes sucks :p
Nice one 👌
Looks awesome. Since I’m posting this here and not on xbiking, this bike is 100x more functional / capable than so many xbikes. Not that all bikes need to be capable and excellent… I love /xbiking for the wacky stuff mixed in with all the front racks 🙂 Yours here is well enough done that it just passes itself off as another generic gravel bike to those that don’t know / take a close look.
Looks great and I should think it rides great too.
How do you like the BB7s? Seems they are not so beloved in the mtb world but better liked by the broader cycling public?
Nice build! How do you like the lever-actuated dropper? The options for adding dropper control to curly bars have always looked awkward to me, so I’m curious about this.
Dang! I’ve been on the fence about trying a dropper in my gravel rig. $60 makes it a lot easier to try. Thanks for your post and thoughts!

Good call posting this here, this is far too nice for r/xbiking (and I love those knuckleheads, to be clear).
I’m a simple man, I see gravelbikes and vw golf, I upvote.
re: Monster Golf, have you seen the 4×4 Golf Country?
