  1. I installed new chainrings. Previously I had 50/34 and I thought it is a good idea to buy 48/32, because they were on sale and I wanted to have it a bit easier anyways.

At first I had trouble shifting to the big chainring. It did not work at all. Now I put the front deraileur to the lowest position and shifting got a bit better, but still not perfect.

I noticed the cap between the teeth and the mech is about 5.5mm and that is the lowest I can get. Is there another skrew somewhere or do I need a different mounting plate?

    Frame is a 2021 Cannondale Synapse Hi-Mod.

While that is too big a gap for spec, I suspect your bigger problem is alignment and limits. Do adjust it as low as practical, then be sure alignment, limits and tension are correct. Might be slightly wider than your old cramkset

  3. You can buy an adapter that allows braze on mechs to use smaller rings…

FSA make one look for super compact front mech adapter, there are cheaper versions available as well
