Well welcome to ride another Ridder cam TV video and today is something a little bit different because I’m going to unveil what’s underneath my bike cover my new bike for 2024 I guess and it is a John Deere no only joking I’m outside Till’s head because I’ve been riding around the

Country doing family stuff this week and I’m heading back down to Cornwall but thought it was an in time to talk about this this is my BMW 12 R12 1250 RT in Alpine white it’s got all of the gadgets on apart from The active cruise control as you can see I fitted my inof cameras on there but it hasn’t got the active cruise control it’s got the normal cruise control it’s got all of the LED lights which is brilliant if I turn them on all the LED lights

And it doesn’t that look mean it looks so mean doesn’t it looks such a mean bike bikers going pass oh quite a lot of bikers so doesn’t that look mean that bike and I tell you what I’ve been up riding around um the tills head um wind campon

A303 up around Swindon off over to London all that sort of stuff and I’ve picked back back roads in order to ride the bike now I love this bike and there something about the ride in position but look at this screen this is a massive screen and

We’ve been through the screen before you know the screen has got loads and loads and loads of options on there it’s got the satnav on there and I’ve got to say the satnav does work but I’m a bit loathed to have it connected to my phone

And have my phone open and unlocked all the time so as you can see above I’ve put an XT um or an xt2 I’ve got the bracket for both of them so what I’ve done is I have bought and I don’t know whether I can show you this I’ve bought the

BMW SAT prep with a bracket and funnily enough the bracket just three mend tapes to the top of the um dashboard there all lockable and then I have got my um 3D a.m. Mountain there which very dirty but 3D am. Mountain there as well which is holding the satav really really well

And doesn’t bounce doesn’t do anything when I’m riding other than be there for me when I’m riding so that’s good so what else have I done to the bike well absolutely nothing to be honest I’ve ridden the bike I’ve put the inof cameras I’ve put the button up here I

Don’t need anything else because it’s got everything I need got the buttons down here they came with it um when I bought it it had some lowered pegs on and to be honest I’m going to keep the lowered pegs on there for a while although it gets you got to get used to

Them because they stick out another inch and a half something like that whereas they they would be up and they would be in they’re really good for Comfort but you’ve got to remember they’re there because you catch your legs on them now the only thing that I’m going to try and

Find is on the RTP on Barney there is a cover underneath here that stops me getting dirty so you can see the state of the bike that’s just through riding normal roads and look at that filthy filthy so I need to do something about that I’ve put some 3M tape on the back

Of the bike um just so that people can see me I’ve got some uh just for the future I’ve got some flat leads coming actually just to see what they’re like from wonderlick uh so we’ll be putting them on in a future video I’ve mounted the in

Of camera just underneath here put a hole in the carrier um and screwed it down because believe it or not there’s really nowhere else that you can put the camera that doesn’t interfere with the paneers or the lights and just there brilliant picture obviously when you got

The brake light on um and you’re braking it does affect some of the vision but only at night um but it’s really good there it’s really nice and discreet you can’t really you can’t really see it there it’s nice and hidden out the way um over this side I haven’t really

Done anything I have put um I’ve got let’s move my helmet out the way I have got a thul no it’s not a thinsulate a let’s move you that way a tribo seat cover bespoke cover for the RT and this is really good because it’s got like a

It’s got like a um a pull cord that you pull through and it pulls all this tight and molds to the seat it does get a little bit ruffled up but it just gives you that extra purchase that you need so you’re not sliding around because I did find that

On the RT and the RTP the seats are very slim not slimy slidy and slippery so that just helps um when I got it fortunately the previous owner because it was second hand they’ve only done 600 miles um they put these um tank pad protectors on there and a tank pad

Protector on the front um and I’m not sure whether you’ll be able to see but just along here there is a line and they have put protectors on all of this as well which is brilliant but there’s nothing else I’m really going to do to

It it’s just a fabulous bike it is so smooth now if I rode Barney and got on this one this one feels like buttery smooth it is just absolutely amazing and because it’s got the shift cam um pots or shift cam technology within the engine it’s got the quick

Shifter up and down and I found that even with the quick shifter from first all the way up to sixth all the way down to First is buttery smooth and when I say buttery smooth it is buttery smooth you’ve kind of got to get used to the

Rev range and how it fits um and how you uh are changing up and changing down and being in tune with the the bike but once you’ve got that it is astounding the Comfort I haven’t felt anything bad at all and the screen um just adds to that

Comfort so coming riding through rain I think I Rod through a bit of a flood as well but riding through rain the rain just goes over over but I have noticed that now wearing a normal jacket the wind goes over my head and just sends a

Bit of cold air down the back of my neck which is really really strange um so I’ve had to start wearing one of these and I’ve got to say it’s actually quite good wearing one of these but the visibility of the bike um not only to other people on the road is immense

Those lights are incredible and it’s got those lights that when you go around a corner it does something Magic Tree and puts the lights where you should be looking and it’s just a really nice bike so I’m hoping that we’ll be doing some more videos on it in the

Future the thing is with the RT is they’re so well made and they behave so well and they’ve got so much on it you don’t really need to fit extras onto it and buy all this stuff from all over the place because it’s just great as it is

So I’m not sure what we’ll be putting on there but it’d be nice to do a few rides and stuff the tank I’ve noticed I can’t remember how big the tank is but it’s not as fuel efficient as the GSA which is really strange because you think that this has got all

That bulk but all that bulk to cut through the air rather than all those angles hitting the air on the GSA and yet this is not as fuel efficient I think I’m averaging about 56 57 miles to the gallon whereas the GSA this is on a

Long run by the way on a long run the GSA was doing nearly 60 so little bit different but my God it is a good bik but there are a couple of downs sides to it a couple of things I don’t like so let’s have a look so in here you have

Got this wonderful little cubby hole for your phone now I’ve got an iPhone 14 pro with a quadlock case incidentally I’ve got to try and find fit quadlock on here somewhere but quadlock case it’s got wireless charging and it’s got space to be able to it’s got a USB port in there

So you can charge up if you’re not using the wireless but it’s really difficult to get this phone into there I don’t understand why they’ve done that when if on this model that I’ve bought I haven’t got the radio and all of the stereo equipment because you know in my view

It’s not something I wanted why could they not make a slot or a cubby hole that you can put your phone into because it’s cavernous in there it’s absolutely cavernous so that would have been something that I would have liked to have seen um but having said that you

Just get used to what you’ve got don’t you there’s a cup hole the other side and the cubby hole the other side is exactly the same size um but you know it took I put my wallet in there sometimes bit of change garage door y

Key you know that sort of stuff so when I get home it’s all there and ready but other than that it’s just an awesome bike just an awesome bike and I know it’s it’s pretty strange this video isn’t it because I’ve haven’t got my wingman I haven’t got the person behind

The camera holding it but Alpine white I looked at the blue and I thought do I get a blue one but the Alpine white is just brilliant it shines in the sunshine this sort of weather shows up really really well so people see you and people will ask why have I got

Another RT when I’ve got an RTP I’ve got Barney I love Barney I can’t see myself selling Barney for a long long time however because my riding style has changed and I really really love riding the RT the seating position the way it rides the way it handles the gadgets on

It the fact that it’s really low weighted you can do anything with it it seems a lot better at slow riding I know they both got the teley lever uh steering but I find slow moving on this it’s almost like you just move the handlebars and you’re just moving just a

Tiny bit but if you’re riding on the GSA and you’re moving the handlebars like that it feels like the whole bike is all over the road even though it’s not it feels more stable it’s more low down but there is you know another bit of a

Downside for me and I know people will probably have a go at me but these things here these paniers they look really really good now I’ve come away for a family thing and I’ve been away for a night two nights I had a bag with my change of clothes in there

Christmas presents in the other side I had to strap some presents onto the back here so it looked quite weird but it’s been very difficult to pack into these paniers and I haven’t got the bespoke made bags I give you that so I’m going to get them and try those but that’s the

Only thing that keeps niggling me in the back of my head about the paniers opening sideways and I know there’s people going to shout and scream at the screen and say Toby you’re an absolute idiot you know these paniers are great and I’m sure they are but I just like

The ones that open out so I’m going to see if I can either get some old RTP paneers and make a 3D bracket that Clips on or something like that um and see how I get on but in the interim this road from tals head somewhere across the is it the sols

Plane or nearby there’s loads of places where tanks cross over the road which is very bizarre for a Cornish person but I’m going to go and ride some of these ride uh roads and enjoy the ride all the way back to cornal on a very gray day

But it’s actually dry at the moment so I’m going to go and enjoy this bike um and we’ll bring some more videos to you about the bike at some point I’m sure um so I hope you’ve enjoyed the video if you’ve got any questions or things that

You you want to know about the RTP that I’ll come across while I’m um while I own the bike then put them down in the comments and I’ll see what I can do to answer some of the questions but for now this is the new bike of the channel

So now I’ve got two RTS which is good because I can ride one for uh one weekend and one the other weekend and one for training and one not for training and one to enjoy and one not to enjoy and then mix it all up and find

Myself riding one more than the other I expect but which one might that be anyway thumbs up subscribe all that good stuff and I’m off to ride some of these roads bye

  1. I only added the tank pads, cylinder head covers and rear crash guards (very easy to install). The handling comparison to the GS or the GSA that I owned both multiple times, is so much better due to the front rake angle and the 17" wheel/tire. This bike makes you feel like you are a better rider instantly. Nice New Year present to yourself. Safe rides. I am not so sure about those Huge Red stickers 😀

  2. Excellent choice! I sat on one at Completely Motorbikes in Hinckley before Christmas and must admit, as an "I'll never ride a BMW" type of guy I was impressed. Seemed way more manageable than its mahoosive big brother the K1600…
I look forward to seeing how you get on with it….

  3. Love the RTs but I think my Pan European 1300 will certainly do very well for me, considering I've already done close to 11k miles since buying it in April! Just wish I had cruise control. Out of curiosity, with the Zumos you guys use, do you find it handy to have running even without a route plotted? I'm looking at making the investment after realising how much I don't like phone navigation and the idea of having it as an additional source of info and to help me keep on speeds whilst observing

  4. Panniers are fine,
I use the triumph inner bags from my trophy 50000m and they fit my 2019 RT also now 50000m fine both bought new.
Tour Spain France Portugal with my wife and there is plenty of room with the BMW top box
Now waiting to see if we get a 1300 RT

  5. Excellent bike Toby. I have the 1250 RT Sport (the blue one) and have loved it.
I notice you have mounted your dash cam under the headlight. I also originally placed a camera there but I found that it kept getting hit by the front mud guard. I moved it onto the RH side of the radiator opening. Hopefully yours is short enough to clear the guard.

  6. Love my RT with the bar risers and lowering peg kit…..I can’t find any good reason to trade my 2015 RT, but it’s only a matter of time ❤️. Congrats on the new bike 👍 my friend just bought a new RT and the lights are so much brighter, which is important here in the US to stay alive 👍

  7. So glad its not a GS like all the other youtubers at the moment. Do you know if ACC can be added later if desired? May just be new switch gear and radar unit. I'm waiting for the -Ps to make it to the second hand market and it looked like they had ACC but you've shown it could just be the blanking plate

I'd love to see how good the headlights are at night, particularly main beam

  8. This bike is majestic, reminding me of the great sailing ships of yore. I wish you many happy touring miles for the new season on this fabulous machine.

  9. Of course I thought it was going to be a 1300gs. The 1250rt is such a wonderful bike, I tried it for a day here in the alps and it's the best road bike I've ever ridden. Can't wait to see the 1300rt! Well done Toby!

  10. Toby, I have fitted higher seat (with heating, cheap on e bay) and transformed the riding position. Then you can throw away those cumbersome lower pegs. I live near you, so your welcome to try it. Regards Paul

  11. I had one, traded it in last July, mine was in the racing blue 💙💙, great bike, only reason I sold it was, I didn't need a big bike any longer… very capable machine…(hope you can keep the white clean 😅😅)

  12. Great video Toby…one heads up though. I have an R1250RT too with an innov K5 system but found if I use the bracket on the front as you have, then you may find it may hit the mudguard on occasion. Hard to believe when stationary I know, but just a heads up. I simply velcro'd mine to the exact same position as yours.

  13. I expect you will be changing your panniers to a top opening system rather than the side opening panniers fitted to the RT. I seem to remember on an older video of yours about the RT that was something that you really didn't like, and at the time was a deal breaker for you, even though just about everything else about the RT you absolutely love. Anyway congratulations on getting your RT it is a fabulous bike and I am sure you will totally love it. I love mine, it is a wonderful bike. Happy biking.
