I’m working on a Sram mullet build, and I’d like to use a Force 46t 1x chainring up front with a 10-50t cassette with one of the eagle AXS derailleurs (haven’t decided which yet – any recs greatly appreciated).
One of the links for the GX Eagle AXS derailleur stated that it has a “42t max chain wrap capacity”, however in this [Keegan Swenson bike checkout](https://velo.outsideonline.com/gallery/pro-bike-gallery-keegan-swensons-santa-cruz-stigmata/) he’s clearly running a 48t Red aero chainring with a XX1 derailleur.
Looking at these photos it’s obviously possible to run a larger chainring than 42t, I’m just wondering why they would state that 42 is the max chain wrap size? It’s definitely making me a little hesitant to click the buy button on some of these components.

Could it be that an Eagle derailleur is normally paired with a 10-52 than a 10-50 cassette? Worth asking SRAM I’m sure they’d know if it’s possible and what the drawbacks or adjustments might be.
Eagle derailleurs all shift the same and 12 grams difference in weight for £50.

Capacity for 1x is Largest – lowest, I.e. for 10-50 it’s 50-10=40. chainring size doesn’t matter for 1x.
For 2x it’s large-small minus small-large.
1x calculation doesn’t matter how big the front chain ring is, only the difference of teeth in the cassette,
So a 46t up front with a 10/50 is a 40t wrap,
The max would be reached when running a 10/52 which would be 42

Chainwrap refers to how much chain the derailleur can absorb between the biggest and smallest gear. On 1x, it’s just the biggest cog minus the smallest cog, which on 10-52 is 42 teeth. The front chainring has no impact, since it never changes. You could run a 100t chainring if you wanted!
The issue is that you don’t understand what chain wrap capacity means.
Just get the x01 kit
If you’re running a 1x setup the chain ring doesn’t have anything to do with total wrap capacity.
Chain wrap is the total difference between small/small and big/big that the derailer can accommodate
for example if the derailer has a max wrap of 42t then on a 1x you can run a 10-52 cassette (assuming the derailer can accommodate a 52 tooth largest rear cog) but if you were running a 2x with a 46/30 crankset then the biggest cassette you could run would be 10-36,
When running 1x it does not matter how many teeth the chain ring has, it could have 150 teeth or it could have 25 teeth, the derailer would not care as long as your cassette was not bigger than 10–52
Pretty sure Keegan ran 52T ring during SBT Gravel
