What are your top Value/Performance (Bang for your Buck) gravel (or road) groupsets that you would put on your next build. What’s the “sweet spot” before hitting diminishing returns?
SRAM, Shimano, Campagnolo, etc.
I’m building up a steel framed “Allroad” bike with a bike wrench buddy. The bike will be used 80% road / 20% gravel. My frame is similar to a Ritchey Outback or Fairlight Secan 2.5 w/ English threaded BB and disc brakes.
What would be your 1x and 2x “bang4buck” choices?
1. Budget ($400-600) ?
2. Mid ($600-1,200) ?
Also, do you prefer to get a full group set together, or drivetrain, crankset, etc. separately? If separated what’s your ideal combo of favorite crankset? Easton, FSA, Cane Creek, Rotor… ? How about gear rings?
Any other favorite components that would go on your next build?
There are a lot of sales right now. Shimano 105 R7150 DI2 12-SPEED for $1,099? Not technically gravel, but seems like a consideration for an all-rounder.
I’m curious to everyone’s thoughts and please link photos of your favorite bikes/builds! Thanks!

9×3 is still king in my mind
If you mix and match I’d do GRX600 mixed with 810 calipers for the ceramic, and the 810 brifters for texture. Derailleurs, cranks and wear parts are very close. Though, getting a full set may be more cost effective.
The Microshift Sword 2×10 looks really nice, gonna put that on my bike soon
I’ve just got 105 11 speed disk for $560. Considering to return it and get 105di2 for $1050.
