Looking to pick up a bike so I can ride around with my kids. They are just starting to get into ridding and I’d like to ride all the local trails(paved) and around the neighborhood with them. I’m 5’9 and about 330. I’m also looking into this to get some weight off.
I’ve been looking at the kink whip, haro mid city and a local shop has one they offer. https://dialedscootersandbmx.shop/products/dialed-bmx-co-captain-4130-full-chromoly-complete-cassette-21-top-tube
I plan on making it into the local shop in the next day or two. Just trying to get an idea if these are good starts.
Thanks!

Depending how long you plan to ride for i would look at 26” or 29” wheel bikes, they’ll be more comfortable and allow you to pedal while seated.
20” bmx can’t really be pedaled while seated. It’s great exercise and would help burn calories, but your endurance would be compromised and you might experience knee/back pain where the only relief would be to stop riding.
Look at bikes like the cult devotion 29” or the crew defender to get a sense for what i’d suggest ✌️
I’m 5’9” too and I find my 24” and 26” far more comfortable for riding around. I only ride my 20” for flatland, it’s cramped for just cruising. I don’t think you should go for a 20” for your needs.
Well, a 20″ BMX is going to be kind of crap for just riding around. I’d seriously look at a SE flyer or something like that. At 5’9″ riding any distance while be awful on a 20″ wheel bike, hell I’m 5’3″ and it still sucks. Pumptracks are good tho.
