2024 YAMAHA XT500 SCRAMBLER WITH A MODERN RETRO LOOK REVEALED!!
The Yamaha XT500 remains one of my all-time favorite single-cylinder motorcycles. This big air-cooled enduro won the inaugural Paris-Dakar Rally, swept the podium in its second year, and kicked off the adventure motorcycle class. Manufacturer-backed teams entered the fray, BMW developed the R80GS to dethrone the XT, and an “adventure arms race” ensued, giving birth to large-capacity four-stroke adventure bikes.

And an “adventure arms race” ensued, giving birth to large-capacity four-stroke adventure bikes. our new friend Andreas from Workshop43 Germany, a born petrolhead who built his own motorized pedal motor as a kid. Now he has his own shop, Workshop43, based in Mainz, Germany’
The donor for this build was a 1981 Yamaha XT500 that was just one step away from the scrap pile and now looks to be in “perfect” condition for a custom build. The engine was completely rebuilt, bored out to 534cc with a larger oil pump and custom stainless steel exhaust.
Up front is a set of USD WP forks from a 1990 Husky TE510, with a pair of 420mm YSS shocks at the rear. The swingarm is made of aluminum with a three-chamber hollow profile, and Andreas designed the wheel spokes in stainless steel, which were specially made by WWS for the project
The bike has a 12-volt conversion, LED lights, and a Motogadget with keyless ignition. Nearly everything was done in-house, including the saddle and paint, and there are meticulous details throughout, such as the hot-start lever for the carburetor, which Andreas machined on a lathe.
Overall, he’s proud of the look, ride, and sound of this resto-modified XT The original aluminum tank is visible nearby and looks appropriate for the motorbike, as it slightly reflects that the motorbike had a pile of rubbish to begin with.
