Rear derailleur somehow got caught in the spokes (might have picked up a stick I’m not sure) broke the hanger and bent the cage. Do I have much chance of straightening this cage.
I’m planning to wait until I replace the hanger so I can better see how the alignment is out.
Also guessing that I should replace the chain.

You can try to bend the der cage straight. It might work. Your chain is probably fine, your derailleur caught your spokes because the low limit was too far inboard, likely because the derailleur hanger was previously bent. This is A very inexpensive job for a pro in a bike shop to get right, but they might not be willing to mess with your derailleur (they might insist on replacing to get a good result)
