Oh sh*t It’s coming at us. Hurry up You see that? There was a bear right here Come on! Faster Alex!! Morning of day six breaks with sun  rays piercing through the clouds. A sight for sore eyes after days of rain. Nothing is better than a  little Pálinka in the morning.

As we sizzle up breakfast, a playful shepherd dog turns thief, nabbing our tactical foodpack. We try chasing him and we laughed,  but it’s too quick for us. Seems like we’re not the  only ones hungry around here. This local pooch just made us with our breakfast. That’s a lively start to our day.

Today feels different. Maybe it’s the sun or just that  sweet sense of adventure kicking in. We’re ready to see what these mountains have   for us today and the day unfolds  with Mother Nature showing off. We ride through rolling hills, lush  forest, it’s a dance with nature. Each turn revealing another spectacular view.

Yeah to get some perspective on what we do We’re not only two random guys revving engines… This, this is why we ride We’re almost at the top It’s beautiful here! Yeah super nice Lunch is an affair with  wilderness sounds as the backdrop. Is it ready yet?

Oh I felt a raindrop on my head. A distant rumble of thunder  tells us a storm’s brewing. Then a buzz from our Carpe Iter  tab, a bear alert in the vicinity. With those storm clouds gathering, it’s  like nature’s telling us to pack up. It’s raining. The afternoon is a mix  of adrenaline and tranquility.

We’re back on the bikes, popping a few wheelies. Tricky with all this gear, but hey,  where’s the fun in easy, right? The ground’s a bit soft from last night’s rain. Makes for a bit of a challenge. Another day and another shepherd in his flock. It’s becoming a regular thing now

His dogs bark up a storm,  but there’s no real threat. We exchange nodes, a silent acknowledgement  of shared respect for these lands. A top of hill we pause, taking  a break at this high point. It’s 360 degrees of pure unfiltered Carpathians. It’s just us, the wind, and the endless panorama.

Binoculars in hand we’re scouring the landscape, hoping to spot some wildlife, especially bears. The vastness around us is humbling,  yet our wildlife quest remains unfulfilled. No luck yet, but the view, absolutely worth it. The descent is proving a bit  tricky. It tests our mettle Alex and I will take several spills.

Nothing too serious, but we’re thinking it might be time to call it a day. We’re tough, but not reckless. Decisions made, we find a picturesque  spot by a roaring campfire, and we rest. Best day for now. Yeah, best  day of the adventure so far Amazing views, a nice weather and some nice trails

No turnaround, no turnaround, yeah absolutely Alex may have a clutch issue but.. Oh damn it I forgot about that! Yes, we’ll figure it out later in the morning. Day 7 greets us with another four-legged friend. This one gentler, sharing our breakfast fire. Guess sharing is caring in the carpathian way.

Today’s task, tackling Alex’s bike issues, the worn out chain and clutch are stubborn foes, mirroring the wide unpredictability around us. His chain and clutch have seen better days. And while we’re troubleshooting Alex’s  bike, a local shepherd wanders over. The chain sounds quite normal, doesn’t it? He tells us about wolves prawling here.

Wolves? Yes! wolves here? I’d love to see one It’s a friendly chat, but you can  bet it’s got our minds racing. Wolves, uh?Just adds to the adventure! The wild calls and we answer. Today’s ride is mesmerizing, yet eventful. Suddenly, we’re in the middle  of a sheep traffic jam.

The dogs guarding them? let’s just say they take their job seriously. Barking, growling, the whole deal. It’s a tense, but exciting moment, dodging sheep and dodging teeth. And here we are, just whipping up lunch. Nothing fancy, but at the sound of the river and it feels like a five-star meal to us.

I’ve taken some beef jerky,  additional if you want some. Teriyaki again? YeahI know your favorite right? No, my favorite’s the original. The original. We’re taking it easy for a bit, enjoying the calm. The sound of water flowing, birds chirping. It’s not all about gnarly rides and close calls.

Ok it’s been seven days  since we’ve been riding here. We haven’t seen any bears. You know, it’s like in the Truman Show. Maybe everything’s fake. Can you here that? Yeah We just heard some noise. So every time it happens, I take this, which is the  thermal optic from Sightmark Alex is on alert.

Alex is telling me that he’s hearing some noise. Yeah, that’s weird. Coffee. Very hot, very hot. We’re climbing at 1700 top. So let’s go. Lunch done and we’re good to go. This spot’s been a real treat,  but the trails are calling. Let’s see what else the  Carpathians have in store for us.

As we ponder the elusive bears, the  day turns into a series of dead ends. We’re faced with this beast of a climb. We’re giving it everything, but it’s tough. The bikes are heavy and  the trails just relentless. Sometimes you gotta know when to call it

And we quickly realize we’re  not making it up this one. Damn buddy Thank you It’s so delicious I’m afraid to keep that with me. So sweet. It will draw every bear in the county. Our quick detour leads us to an unexpected  interaction with this old timer.

He starts telling us about local wildlife, like how big these bears really are and the ways they catch wolves here. The pictures it shows us, they’re  pretty graphic, not gonna lie. I think he said that I looked like Brad Pitt and you looked like young Ashton Kutcher.

And just when we thought our break  couldn’t get any more interesting, he’s walking us through  these old photos of his mom as a child back in the 1920s. His family’s roots here go back a century. It’s mind blowing to see how much has changed and yet how some things stay the same.

But as much as we love these chats, the forest waits for no one. Time’s ticking, we’ve got to hustle back and find a spot to camp. It’s steep on our right Just like every day, very difficult trail. So much rocks, I just turned back and Alex is still stuck here.

Dead end, dead end, everything’s dead end.  We’ve been riding for two hours dead end. So  20 kilometers back we go, looking  for place to go home for the night. Today was rough, trails pushing us to our limits. We’re even thinking of tweaking our route a bit, not to cut corners, but  just to keep things rolling.

The problem is that the trails  of tomorrow might just be unpracticable. But for now, it’s about resting up,  recahrging and getting ready for what’s next in these wild Carpathian mountains. Good morning from the top of the world. Feels like it anyway. It’s 11 AM in the morning.  This is freaking awesome.

We’re kicking off day 8 with  breakfast up high in the hills, surrounded by the Carpathians in all their glory. Mountains and forests all around, all around. That’s all there is As we’re having coffee, it’s  hard not to be awestruck Every direction you look, it’s postcard-perfect. The trails are looking good today. Fun and not too gnarly.

We’re deep in the forest now and we’re seeing bear warning  signs for the first time. Our path soon turns vertical.  A steep ascent that’s about   to drain our energy and test our spirits. You slipped chief Seems like it yeah..I don’t know how though We hit this steep climb and it’s a serious one,

A battle man and machine versus nature. Alex is up first, but bam, down he goes. No worries, we pick his bike up, try fail repeat. It’s exhausting and after a  while, Alex needs a breather. I’m thinking, ‘I got this’ and take over his bike. It’s tough, but I make it up there.

So we have been stuck for now an hour and a half. Alexistook my bike up there,  but failed to take his own. Hunger and anger and anger are trying to affect the morale. I’m sick of this!! Okay, let’s try a few other shots and then we’ll have a lunch, okay?

Now it’s just me and my bike. I’m feeling confident, but man,  this hill’s got all the plans. I keep losing traction, stalling at the same spot. It’s super frustrating. It’s always happening here bit hard. Bro if there were a bear right  now, I would kick his ass

I’m hungry, tired and starting to loose it a bit But giving up, not an option. Fuck! I was almost there! Alexis succeeded to take my bike up there, but has not succeed to take his own. Maybe it means that the Norden is better. I don’t think so, honestly but we’ll see

Okay, let’s give it another shot.  Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. After what feels like a million tries,  I conquer the beast of a hill. Woohoo! We can have lunch now. I’m starving. Shit, now I’m alone with the bears. The relief is unreal, but we’re not  out of the woods yet. Literally.

According to our map, it should flatten out ahead. Fingers crossed. We finally break into open ground. The view? It’s like a reward  for all that struggle. These valleys spread out before  us, it’s nothing short of majestic. What better place for lunch, right? so here we are, settling down  for a well-deserved lunch

We’ve got this whole valley as our  dinning room and it’s just perfect That climb was tough, but moments like this they make it all worth it So we’re back on the trails  and stumble upon this farm way out in the middle of nowhere here’s where it gets wild

As soon as I fire up my bike their dogs go nut I mean full on attack-mode bitting at my tires and luggage One of them is even on leash  and is pulling so hard, it snaps full throttle, and we out of here Yeah, first time I’ve been  genuinely scared of dogs.

Guys, we’ve just stopped Come with me, come with me. We are 1500 meters high in the mountains. Very far from pretty much everything. You see that? Those are massive bear footprints. This here you can see the claws one here, one here, one here Massive going the other way, see here.

Those are definitely not fresh f There’s quite.. probably a long time I’ve no idea actually, but… This is massive one I’m telling you guys, when you stop in there,  you better be careful and ready for… anything that nature can throw  at you, including a bear.

It’s moments like these that  really pump up the adrenaline. The wilderness is unpredictable  and we love it, but let’s be real. There’s a bit of tension in the air. We’re far from civilization,  the day’s winding down, and we’ve got to find a spot to camp.

You never really know what’s  around the next bend and… That’s what true adventure riding is all about We’re checking the map for any road that  could get us out of this forest, but it’s like a maze here and the  easy options? None existent. So it’s back to the trails forest, but this time

We’re picking up the pace,  trying to beat the clock. And just as we’re getting into  the groove, Alex signals a stop. His clutch is acting up, gears won’t shift That’s the last thing you  want in terrain like this. 7pm. It’s getting dark and we’ve got a  problem, an issue with the clutch.

Alex is currently repairing the clutch. We’re in the middle of the  forest. Honestly, it’s very scary. We are quite worried because  we’ve got at least 20 kilometers. To reach a refuge that we know is on the track. So, cannot stop. Hey bear Bit of a hiccup, but we get it sorted

Time to hit those trails again. We’re moving fast, but  caution’s the name of the game, especially when you’re this deep in the game and a week into non-stop off-roading. It’s 7.30. We’ve got some network coverage, so we’re looking   on Google Maps if the tracks- that  we’re following has good trails.

The trails are calling, and we’re  answering with full throttle. Mud, rocks, roots. It’s a wile ride, but man, are we loving it. It’s about balance, focus,  and a whole lot of care. I’m leading, keeping Alex in  the loop over the intercom, about every twist and hazard.

The goal? Hit that shelter  before darkness swallows us up. It’s an hour of pure concentration,  dodging nature’s obstacles. And there it is, the top of the hill. And a what a sight! And that is freakign awesome Like.. Can you hear the storm? Are you happy?

There’s a storm here, a storm  here, pretty much everywhere We are surrounded by storm by rain The only spot in the whole  mountain where it’s not yet raining Yeah it’s raining My God, what a view. That was one of the most intense  climbing that we had ever.

We had to keep moving, keep  moving, keep moving, keep moving. Absolutely, no break nothing, no time to set up, nothing. Go, go. Oh my God, ok let’s go I don’t want to get to strike by the thunder. We can hear the rain, and it’s coming very fast. Okay, let’s move

We made it just in time  before the rain is pouring. Honestly I pretty much didn’t believe  it that we were going to make it. That was very scary, honestly yeah A bit of blue sky. Oh, blue sky after the storm. That is the crunchy muesli  with strawberries, my favorite.

Alright we’re back on the trails  but it’s like a swamp out here. Rain turned everything into a muddy mess. It’s tricky riding. Got to be extra  careful with every turn and bump. And then this happened. The exact thing that we didn’t want to happen. Okay guys, so the road is this one.

It’s a drum-foresti. It’s pretty much a wood road. It’s unpracticable, so much  mud as you can see on the sides And I went with the bike and I just dived into mud So now we need to take the pulleys Just when we thought it couldn’t get  tougher, my bike decided it’s had enough.

Stuck deep in the mud. It’s  like it’s been swallowed whole. We’re pulling out all the stops,  pulleys, logs, you name it. But it’s barely budging. We will now have a little meat soup. And then we’ll try to… To leave. You know what the problem is? There’s only one bike that made it out.

For now, yeah. No, I think it’ll be fine. Still not a fucking bear. We’ve seen tracks again. But I think they’re fake. We’ve been here stuck for two hours, so the  perfect opportunity for them to come and eat us. and no one And that’s why we’re cooking now. Just to attract them.

Bear. Bear. So we’ve just conquered this muddy  hill, and we’re making our way down. I’m talking just a few  kilometers into the ride and… Bam! My heart stops. Right there, downhill, about  50 meters from us, is a bear. I hit the brakes hard, the bike skids  and stalls, nearly tipping over.

I’m off the bike in a flash,  trying to get another glimpse. My mind’s racing, where did  it go? Did it just vanish? I have just seen my first bear, okay? I’ve just seen a bear, like here. It was here. I was riding, it was here,  in the trees, in between the trees.

And when I saw him, I freaked  out, but by adrenaline. So I just went hard on the brake,  and I think I just scared him away. Bro that was crazy, I’ve just seen my first bear. Alex is up ahead, he missed the whole thing. He didn’t see it.

I’m trying to spot it again,  hoping it’s still nearby. But it seems like our furry  friend has already made a getaway. What a moment, though. I’m  just buzzing with excitement, And just when we thought our  wildlife luck had peaked for the day the Carpathians had another surprise in store.

There, right in the middle  of our path, a young deer. I signal to Alex, trying to keep  it down so the deer doesn’t bolt. We quietly get off our bikes. Cameras and thermal optics in  hand, ready to capture this moment. The deer seems curious but cautious.

We move slowly, trying not to startle it. It’s a dance of patience and excitement. To be this close, in its natural  habitat, it’s a privilege. And we manage to get some amazing shots. This is what adventure is all about. Very close encounter, was not afraid of us.

Just incredible. We took a nice  video, nice photos, nice pictures. It was here, in the middle of the road. And we went downhill, this way. And the bikes here just didn’t move. Crazy, good, very good. Can you believe it? 8 days out here,

And now, two incredible wildlife  encounters in less than an hour. So it’s about7 in the evening and we  roll into this quaint little village. But something’s off, I mean everyone’s  outside buzzing with excitement. Did something happen here? Then I see it. My heart skips a bit.

There, on the edge of the forest,  almost stepping into the village. A mother bear with a cub. Alex gets his first glimpse of  a bear, up close and personal. It’s crazy. This is the typical Sunday in Romania. Sunday night, instead of watching  TV or the Grand Prix for tonight,

It’s watching bear with everybody. There it is, undeniable proof of  the wilderness we are immersed in. Eight days of waiting, wandering and finally, a bear sighting. This moment right here in this village  makes all the waiting worthwhile. It’s the raw beauty of nature  intersecting with human life. We’re capturing every second of it,

Firefighters and police are on the scene,  working to guide the bears back to the forest. This is exactly what we’ve been reading about. Bears wandering close to villages Just to mention, I’m the one who spotted the bear. And look at that.

That is crazy, man. That is crazy. Look  at that. We are in a small village. And bro, we just spotted a  bear, a mother bear with cubs. That is insane. There’s the  firefighters, the gendarmeria. They are throwing some petards,  you know, like fireworks.

Yeah, that’s crazy. And it was  just here, so close to the houses. Yeah, that’s crazy. Alex, I told you that we would see bears today. Yeah, it was the… I told you. It’s surreal to witness it first hand. And with that, we’re wrapping  up another unforgettable day.
