The Hyper has 1×9 which I love but it’s a Walmart bike. I’m a casual rider to the park or a quick trek to the store.

Hyper looks like it’s one size fits all and I don’t even see any frame size dimensions so maybe it’s a 25% gamble that it even fits you well, pass.
Chinook has 5 sizes to choose from, mechanical disc brakes and 2×8 speeds.
[Midtown](https://www.mec.ca/en/product/5051-244/midtown-bicycle?colour=French+Navy%2FAquatic+Blue) for $50 more upgrades to hydraulic disc brakes and 3×9 speeds however there is only S, L, XL left in stock.
Or see what else you can find that has a 1x drive train like the Hyper and is available in multiple sizes.
Also ask r/Budgetbikeriders if anyone there knows any good budget bikes in Canada.
never buy a big box bike. I’d go to a bike shop personally but if that’s not an option for you, MEC is a much, much better option than Walmart.
