Others will have a better eye than me. I always think how does the chain sit? Am I having any problems? But mainly I buy the next chain ring because they aren’t expensive and then have it to compare to the one I’m using. Much easier to see with a new one to put up next to it.

If you are worried about wear just buy a new ring, like others have said they are not expensive and I am sure your teeth would cost more. I usually listen to how the chainring sound when putting on a new chain and if its not meshing well or sounds crunchy I just put a new one on. For me being safe is more important than ended up sorry. Just my 2 cents…
