Need help – I removed my fixie chain to deep clean, now not able to put it back. I was able to remove it just by sliding an Allen key into the chain link and removing the plate.
How do I attach the chain link back (see pic)? This is not really a “magic link”. I don’t have any tools specifically for this. When trying to put it back, the pins seem further apart compared to the distance between the pinholes on the plate. Trying to force down the plate didn’t work.

is the side plate with the pins on it flat? If you lay it on a truly flat surface is there a gap or visible curve to it?
Was there another piece? On some of these removable things there is a piece that clips on last to hold the side plate on – sort of a tall u-shape.
With what you’ve shown there’s nothing that will stop the chain just coming apart again.
Please don’t reuse the old link. It’ll come apart while you’re riding. Get the correct size master link for your chain, you’ll be much safer.
With those links, you hold the chain as leverage to bend the link back just enough to put that outer plate back on then let go, and it’ll stay in place.
I usually put one side of the link on, and hold my thumb over the other while I bend it into place ever so slightly
You’re missing a piece its looks like the current plate you have but its more of a C shape where the two holes become one large hole you can buy a new one for £2 at your local bike shop
Buy a new link, if you lost the lock plate, links are budget and always you can have one for emergency. Put them with the correct direction and press ir with a pliers to lock the chain.
