On this episode of Ultimate Barrier Testing, we will be comparing the performance of the 300 Blackout to the 5.56×45 on 4 different targets. Each target is worth 25 points, for a grand total of 100 points. Whichever cartridge ends up with the highest score will be the winner. Testing was setup at 50 yards. Thanks for watching!

5.56 versus 300 Blackout which one will win on this episode of ultimate barrier Testing the rules are simple four targets each worth 25 points Winner Takes all whichever cartridge ends up with the most points at the end is the winner if you’ve seen any of my previous testing videos involving the three iner blackout then you know it’s a pretty subpar cartridge whenever it comes to
Hard targets or at least I thought it was go ahead check out my last video because the 300 Blackout rarely shocked me in it but anyway today we’re going to be comparing it to the 5.56 to see how they compare on different barrier Targets in case you missed the last
Testing video this is the Unis sled short for Universal because it is going to be holding a bunch of different barriers and let me show you how it works real quick essentially the barrier or the target’s going to be sitting in this pocket right here and then in this
Pocket there’s going to be a 3/4 in piece of plywood just to see what the bullet does if it were to go through the barrier and don’t worry steel sled 4.1 is still going to be helping us out for this video before we do the testing let’s
Take a look at the first Target real quick and here it is this is a 6×6 piece of pressure treated lumber or at least they call it a 6×6 I’m pretty sure it’s a 5 1 half by 5 and a half but anyway we’ll have to see how these cartridges
Do against this now in order to keep it fair we’re going to be shooting in two different spots on this wood for each of the cartridges because the wood could have slightly different density so we got to make sure that we’re keeping it fair well the 5.56 is going to start us
Off so let’s get to It guys I don’t know about you but I love the smell of that powder slapping me right in the face well they are two pretty decent shots they’re definitely spread out on the wood uh oh they both went through let’s see what happened to the 3/4 in piece of
Plywood okay so one of those bullets I guess hit a KN or something in that Lumber because it started yawing and it keyh hold by the time it came out the other one though it went straight through that 3/4 in piece of plywood now it’s time for the 3 in blackout though
Well now I got a magnified optic so there’s no excuses if I hit those same holes although I pretty sure I could come up with Some remember how I said I wasn’t going to hit those previous two holes well this one was good but I may have overcompensated on this area it actually hit this little sharpened post luckily I sharpened it or else it could have been been damaged pretty bad but that one I
Yeah that one definitely did not go through as you could see the bullet had already started splitting apart before it even hit the lumber so one more Shot that shot was right on the money now let’s see what happened to the back okay now we got some new holes let’s see what happened to the 3/4 in piece of plywood that I think that was a second one that bullet started yawing and it
Actually keyh hold into the 3/4 in plate and then a brand new hole over here as well pretty similar results to the 556 but wood that’s just our starting Target let’s get this out of here time to move on up and doing that actually requires a little flipp
Aoo our next Target is this 8 in thick box filled completely complely with sand guys sand is super rough on bullets so I don’t know if either one of these has a chance of going through but we’ll have to go ahead and see let’s get that 3/4
In piece of plywood in there all right we’re looking Good such a tiny hole I can barely even see that let’s see what happened to the back though that’s what really M oh whoa absolutely no penetration from that 5 5 six guys I told you that sand is rough on these bullets all right we’re ready for the 3
Under blackout actually let me shift that sand up a little in there just in case okay now we’re Ready okay pretty decent shot placement kind of right by the 556 let’s see what happened oh my gosh guys it actually came out the back back that is freaking nuts I guess it didn’t go straight through though I mean it came way out on this side of the box and I actually shot
It right on this side so it didn’t go straight through and it actually missed the 3/4 in piece of plywood looks like there was some sand splatter on there though let’s see if we can find the bullet anywhere I can’t oh there it is there it is okay yeah it definitely
Didn’t have much kinetic energy coming out of that box and still pretty not too too hot to touch butth you can see how rough the sand is on that bullet that is Crazy well it definitely looks like we have a winner for round two all right time for round three we just got to flip this bad boy around there we go well let me straighten it up a little okay now there we go just have to add these little wings on before I
Introduce the target oh [ __ ] these are 2in thick concrete blocks so needless to say this should be pretty rough on the bullets let’s see what happens all right we’re looking good keep in mind that this is not reinforced concrete it is just straight Concrete well that was a pretty cool reaction the concrete basically went everywhere but uh let’s see what actually happened to the 3/4 in piece of plywood basically nothing that bullet probably got shredded apart and you know I don’t even know if that’s fragments of the bullet or if that’s spalling from
The concrete I I can’t tell what that is needless to say it did not go through though let’s see what the 300 Blackout did though let’s see what the 300 Blackout does though looking good now that one was pretty violent too it threw that concrete everywhere now let’s check out the 3/4
In piece of plywood I I don’t know what happened there I guess the bullet kind of deviated from where I shot cuz it hit the bottom of the 3/4 in piece of plywood but it definitely did a lot more damage than the 5.56 did there is definitely a larger piece going through
So I think we know the winner of this round as well our last but definitely not least Target is mild steel this one is a quarter inch of mild steel and I would say that the 300 Blackout doesn’t have a good chance of going through but uh
You’d be surprised let’s get after it though I think that’s about as tight as it’ll get oh and by the way if you’re needing any 300 Blackout or 5 56 ammo I would definitely recommend going and checking out Midway USA I have been shopping on their online website for
Quite some time now so I would definitely recommend going and checking them out and I really appreciate Midway was say for sponsoring my Channel quter inch for the 556 piece of cake it went straight through and that’s actually one of the coolest looking flowers I’ve seen with the 556 so far anyway onto the 300 Blackout the three in blackout dude again I don’t know we’ll have to See I don’t know I don’t know it’s look oh my gosh that is a clean hole for the 300 Blackout I don’t know about you guys but that specific round is kind of making me believe in the 300 Blackout again how about 38 of an inch of mild
Steel is that a good next stop well too bad we’re doing it anyway okay that’s about as TI as I’ll get it either one of these cartridges have a chance of going through it’s got to be the 5.56 there ain’t no way there ain’t no way out of that 16in Barrel oh my gosh I can see daylight through there it definitely made it through 38 of an inch of mild steel that is absolutely insane performance that must be a really good bullet construction or something well
What about the 300 black out can it do that too uh I wouldn’t bet any money on it but we can See I got a sneak peek through the scope and it’s not looking good for the three in blackout yep my suspicions were correct it landed right beside the 556 and and it still did not go through although it did a number on this piece of wood that I have down here so that’s
Pretty impressive I guess still though I think we know who the winner is for this round wait a second if my math is correct that means Mr blackout anything to say to your fans after your most recent win like And subscribe for more wins hey now don’t get too cocky and
Remember don’t let ballistics drive you bananas Oh

Bro has some thick vocal cords.
After all the work, a summary chart at the end would have been helpful.
Ive always wanted a 300 blk, but $1 a shot keeps me from getting one.
Shoulda gone with 110grain 300blk its about 200fps faster
lol, you've been ordering from Midway since when ??? Did my first MAIL ORDER in the 90's, well before online ordering became a thing. Thanks for your test here, although I think the .300 should have got a 2nd shot on the last target since it hit wood before steel.
Bottom line, shots on target = shots on target…. = Dirt nap. For civilians, either will do just fine.
.300blk is junk
Usually, I love your comparisons, but this one was well apples to cell phones. Two things that have nothing to do with each other. The 556 was designed to be a mass produced round with solid ballistics in shorter ranges. Meanwhile, the 300BLK was literally designed for those same things, however with the exception of silence. Not silence, but quieter for sure. it’s like the 86 blackout the whole purpose is for it to be ran with a suppressor. And for the record, running 300 BLK against 556 with a suppressor 300 blackout destroys 556. Something about over gassing a heavier bullet has a greater effect than over gassing something super light. If they were going for sheer power, they would’ve just converted an AR to 7.62x 39. Regardless, in SHTF situation both rounds are more than adequate whether it’s a zombified human target or an alien or rabid raccoons. Lol. Especially when it comes to these two calibers who cares, just get both. They are both cheap, guns and ammo alike. Also since we are discussing it, the 300 gets no benefit from a 16 inch barrel. if you want to do an apples to apples comparison then put them both in a 7 1/2 inch pistol or 10 inch pistol anything more than that and you start to have negative effects on the 300. Ironically it would be a perfect apples to apples comparison because the 556 starts getting its mojo in a 10 inch barrel. Unless of course you’re like me and completely dissatisfied with the little 22 caliber round. If I’m only gonna be able to shoot 150 to 200 yards I’d rather go with the much more powerful 350 legend or for that matter if I really want to knock the wall down the 450 legend or 50beowulf/458 socom. Honestly if you want to go farther than 150-200 yards an AR-15 is the wrong platform anyway. You need a 10 or a completely different rifle. So even giving that they are both and technically all calibers of the A.R. 15 platform are only good to so little distance my suggestion is to evolve your collection to have a little bit of everything for a little bit of everything. Couple different shotgun, couple different handguns couple different rifles (deer) a couple of ARs etc. when you really get into Guns, you realize there is no all purpose firearm, and at the same time all firearms are all purpose. It’s not all this one’s more powerful so it’s automatically better. Which is more powerful in this situation. Once you go through all of that, you realize they pretty much end up being safe queens and you only used two or three of them on a regular basis, and the rest are safe queens that only come out to show off. lol.
We need a "thumbs up" counter on these videos….musta been 18 in this one 😉
This was bananas.
What ammo and distance?
Most confusing gun channel😱
Try using cats and see which cat screams the loudest
🐈
i went ahead and built one of each so i can use both at the same time, the coroner can hit me up with the stats on each if and when it ever comes up
That was interesting. I think you should've taken another 300 shot on that last target though with a clean hit. Just to leave no gray area. Those 5.56 hits did look pretty cool. Fun video.
You said “kinetic energy”😎👍🏽
I tested 7.62×39 vs 223 and had similar results. I shot a 1-inch mild Steel. The 223 penetrated deeper.
Green tip 5.56 beat 308. The green tip almost came through 1 inch mild steel. Of course 308 would win if they made that with a green tip design.
May as well do a 5.56 vs 50 Cal. Right?
Good video but I don't see a fair comparison here. The 7.62×39 vs 5.56 was a better one since they were rivals for so many years.
🤣 the 5.56 soy boys on this topic is intense
Gun owners are always looking for some reason to shooot. Which is better❓❓👀. Either one that hits the target will work. Which one is cheap
300 BLK is an unsustainable, irrelevant round. Better comparison to 300 BLK would be 7.62, not 5.56. For all intent, & purpose 7.62 is a far more effective simply based on price point, availability, & it’s shear numbers….A heavily stockpiled munition that’s reliable, & purchased by the case. Who runs out of gas first…. The ones running 300 blk, or the masses with 7.62, & $5 AK/AKM surplus magazine's at their disposal? AR/AK for decades worth of survival, 300blk for a half a days worth.
Is midway still a bunch of nra kuks?
Is that cement or concrete. Doesn’t look like there is any stone in the mix.
no replacement for displacement
Do you sing “baby lock dem doors and bring the lights down low?”
Seems the last test was compromised considering the .300 BLK round hit the wood before the target.
I still enjoyed the video because it validates something I have been preaching for years.
Good video, no BS, straight to it !!
Honestly, I would not want to be on the other side of that concrete with either round.
0:00: ⚔️ 5.56 and 300 Blackout cartridges are tested on different barrier targets to see which performs better.
3:49: 🔫 The video shows the testing of 3/4 inch plywood and a sand-filled box against bullets, with no penetration in both cases.
7:15: 🔫 The video demonstrates the impact of different types of ammunition on various materials.
Recapped using Tammy AI
You should have made one more 300 blackout shoot. The 300 blackout hit the board, absorbing some energy. A Stright hit would tell the story. Enjoyed and learned from this video.
IMO 300 blackout is the most versatile intermediate cartridge out. I wish it would get more popular and the price goes down.
1:00 what about lighter weight 300bo bullets compared to heavier 5.56.
IE 110gr 300 vs 80gr 5.56
Havent watched the whole review yet.
How does it do against terrorists running straight at Uuuu?
how about pitting 308 vs 30-06 or 308 vs 300 win mag
1st. Why are using 55gr 5.56? 55gr is great for target practice not for self defense, combat or penetration.
62gr would be the lightest bullet you’d ever want in 5.56 for anything but paper.
What bullet design are you comparing? Or are you???
This was a horribly designed comparison!
I too enjoy the smell of burnt 5.56 powder. I dunno why, it just smells different than other cartridges. And I like it, it's nice.
Err… the 300 went through wood before hitting the steel. If you can't afford another round, or were planning to weld that plate into your car, just ask. Geez
I’m trying to build an ar and I was told for awhile .300 was the way to go. Then I got told by another friend that they are useless. Dont know which way to lean
