STEAM TRAIN 2023 on the Battlefield Line South Leicestershire.

This ongoing Video Diary by myself John Neal, sometimes known as John Longcroft-Neal, as the whim takes me.

TODAY’S SUBJECT is another visit to the Battlefield Line which runs from Shackerstone to Shenton in South Leicestershire. The volunteer operators often get wonderful steam locomotives in such as this one a great Western 5199, and it’s a great attraction around this time of year leading up to Christmas. I did film another steam locomotive here about 12 months ago, but it’s always good to have another go.

GENERAL STUFF
I am retired from two careers of primary school teaching when I was deputy head of a Middle School and Primary School, and as a self employed Chalkboard Artist from 2002 until I reached the grand old age of 65 in 2016. Since I retired it’s like a second childhood but with more expensive toys.

I play guitar and write songs and have written about 14 songs for the local BBC radio station. I run a weekly (weakly) evening Acoustic session at a local pub and have been doing so for 14 years now. I also started an afternoon acoustic session in a quite large cafe in Nuneaton. Both premises were former songwriting clients of mine.

Iphone 13Pro for camera, generally front facing so I can see myself in frame. Super quality especially if I keep the lens clean.

Tall Tripod is a Velbon CX 540
Mono pod is a Manfrotto Compact MMC3-02 and is very useful for getting high angles that look like low flight drone shots and so easy to carry on my bike along with the mini tripod.

Well hello it’s John Neil here it’s Sunday the 29th of October 2023 and I’m standing in U a field waiting for the steam train to Come Yes today is the day the last day in fact that the steam train is going on the battlefield line here at uh well come down to shenton from uh Market Bosworth and uh I’ve done this before but I just want to have another crack at

Not a lot of steam and smoke coming out of it but once it goes the other way back towards Market Bosworth it’ll be a better view I’ll show you some of that later nevertheless here it is pulling into shenton Station South leester share good Oh MO well that’s uh seeing the train safely into shenton station I thought it was going to be facing the other way but now it’s actually facing the right way going out so I’m going to do another shot uh using the Drone from in front of it let’s see if we can catch That and yes of course I can so here we have the Great Western 5199 pulling the train and the carriages from the front the right way round in all its Glory
