Beginning stages of planning a east to west trip on the katy trail potentially mid April 2024. I’ve heard some businesses could be potentially closed along the way then but date could be changed if necessary, any input would be helpful.
Also was wondering if anyone has taken the Amtrak from Kansas city area to St. Louis with bikes? Wanted to park vehicle in KC area and ride Amtrak to the end. How is cycling in St. Louis area to the end of the Katy trail near Machens? Has anyone else done this? Thoughts, suggestions?

Hate to say this….
The Machines to St. Charles l is a bit limited as far as services (there’s plenty of food in St. Charles and water at the ball fields as you head out towards Machines, that’s the only spot I know of along that section).
If you take the Amtrak to St. Louis you can take a roll on rail line up to the airport then bike up to St. Charles area then backtrack to Machines if you’re a true end to end kinda person.
You need to have a reservation for your bike on the Amtrak (they can be fussy if you don’t and might not let you ride).
