I cannot begin to explain how the book changed my entire life and led me to my World War II interest. Ever since I found they were making it into a series, I have been avidly checking Youtube for any new information. I was one of the lucky 200 people who won the sweepstakes to watch the first episode and an exclusive conversation between Shawn Levy and Anthony Doer. The first episode was filled with incredible cinematography; you can tell that Shawn truly put his entire heart and soul into this beautiful series. I cannot wait for it to come out and I urge everyone to read the book if you haven’t. Anthony brings atmosphere to his writing in a way that I’ve never seen before. ❤
I love Lars Eidinger as an actor, he immerses himself in every role he plays so beautifully. I've seen him in the film "Tabu: The Soul Is a Stranger on Earth" where he plays Georg Trakl, an Austrian poet who had an incestuous relationship with his sister, had to participate in the I. World War and (maybe accidentally) killed himself at a young age with drugs. His sister killed herself after that too, she was also quite young. Very tragic and dark, as are the poems of Trakl. But Lars Eidinger was captivating in the leading role and since then I like him very much. I've seen him in 2 episodes of "Tatort", which is "the German NCIS", but runs since much longer and was copied by the Americans I guess, because it's an older TV show than any similar American show. And in those 2 episodes of Tatort Eidinger played a psycho, who broke into womens homes, brushed his teeth, lived there while his potential victims weren't home and at some point killed them. He was scary and very convincing. He can play emotionally unstable and creepy characters beautifully. I'm glad he gets more recognition outside of the German-speaking countries too. 🙂
I know the book is in English but I wish they did the movie/series in French and German to really add to the feel. I also got late teenager age kind of vibes from the 2 MC when I read the book, but I guess I let it slide as long as they are going to stay true to the storyline and most of the character interaction
Plus, this is Aria Mia (the girl playing Marie) first ever audition & movie, and we know it's gonna be realistic as heck because she herself is VIP (visually-impaired person)
This seems pretty different from the book in terms of plot but honestly I'm okay with that as it still looks interesting. They probably adapted some things to make it more appealing to a wider audience. Also a lot of things that worked really well in the book probably wouldn't translate well to live action so that's understandable. Can't wait for this to come out!
¡Por favor que sea temporada única!, da miedo empezar a verla, disfrutarla como un niño y luego enterarse que, de necesitar una segunda temporada, jamás te enterarás cómo termina la historia (bueno, aquí al menos hay libro)… RIP 1899
I really hope Frederick is in this adaptation!! After reading his scenes in the novel, he quickly became one of my favourite characters in literature 🥺
viewers to acknowledge the complex humanity of others while failing to depict much itself.
Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has adapted the hit second world war novel with all the subtlety of ’Allo, ’Allo! Prepare for twee acting, a woeful script and accents that get vurse and vurse
It’s so cool to see this book become a reality it looks SO COOL it’s exactly what I imagined when I read it
I'm so excited to watch this!! I read the book a few years ago and it was so good!
Louis Hofmann is an really incredible actor! So happy for him. After "Dark", i really hoped und wished for him, to be part of a new era of german actors!! Lars Eidinger as well – great choice to have him on board!
Seems to be very good. The story is amazing and the cast great. Can’t wait to see it
It seems that those who just watched it without reading the book have a better opinion on this series. What I don't understand is why it's getting butchered on Rotten Tomatoes and similars. Sounds unfair to me. :/
Speak for yourself, you have no idea what we grew attached to. You are not as bright as you think. You are not even watching the same movie and you don't see beyond the light in your face.
