  1. You barely touched on the history of the area, a Maori our Father came to work on the farm here before any houses were built in Pukera Bay, on land taken from us by our British colonisers. I spent over 30 years of my life there from 1942 to 1949 then 1952 to 1973. A fluent speaker of our language because his mother (a Pakeha)was adopted by Ngati Toarangatira, our mother was Maori There were only two Maori families there, us and our cousins, over 22 children in all. The shops you described were built where the RSA hall was the. We went to dances, saw films, and had many family celebrations there. If our family didn't go on film night half the audience was gone. I am writing up all the history of this area down to Taupo ki te Tonga/Plimmerton.I know you are a visitor here but please try to learn a bit more of the history before you talk about where your visiting. We lived at 4 Te Motu Road all those trees you walked through were foot high shrubs then. We were there long before Peter Jackson!

  2. Pukerua Bay , is below the top of the ridge , and below the train station .
Its also the southern entry-exit of one of the countrys premier walks "The Escapment Track , whose exit is the next town along . .
You should have gone down to the Bay , its beautiful ..
While working , Pukerua Bay was passed thru at least 6 times per week . One Nights work , we almost got stuck in snow , up at the village on the way north .
Dan Wooton , comes from there as well , as Sir Peter Jackson .

  3. My mum once aspired to live in Pukerua Bay. It has a great coastline. On a primary school trip once, we walked the coast from Puk south to Plimmerton. Forgot to put sunscreen on my ears, my right ear blew up like a small egg with a water blister.

  4. I live literally a 10 minute drive away from Pukerua Bay, i cracked up laughing knowing that you went in a circle to get back to those shops on SH1 Puk Bay 😂😂 its a bit of a hole but lovely community & some stunning views! Also the reason why theres not much graffiti at that skatepark is cos its where the “more upper class” people live, i didnt even know this was there…. yet i was born here lol

  5. I dunno if you've walked the escarpment from Pukerua Bay to Paekākāriki, but it is well worth a second trip to do so! (And you can have an ice-cream at both ends of the walk…)

  6. Lmao!! This is hilarious! I had a feeling that you'd end back at the dairy for the ice cream! Made my night! Locals call it Puk e, pronounced pook e! We only stop there in an emergency, like for….ice-cream …(No, not really!) Welcome to New Zealand! You're doing a great job. Saw the Tauranga post! Was depressing but accurate! 😊❤
