Pls help me! My front derailleur was not shifting the chain to the big ring so I watched some YouTube vids on how to fix it. Came across a vid that said to adjust the height of the fd or to realign it to make it parallel, however after I did that I couldn’t move it higher since the cable somehow became shorter(?). (Thats why the FD looks jank af) Now I scratch my bike by a lot since every time I try to unscrew the screw holding the cable it moves the fd cage. Im using a Sensah Ignite set, pls send help, I have to practice riding tomorrow since it’s now my only means of transport.

If you need to change the angle and the height of the derailleur you’ll need to loosen the cable tension first. Then the bolt around the back of the clamp can be loosened to adjust height/angle

It’s supposed to move when you disconnect the cable. That’s how derailleurs work. There’s a spring that pulls the derailleur cage inwards, and the cable is pulling against that spring. The shifter controls the length/tension of the wire and that controls the position of the cage.

Disconnect the cable first. It is under tension, so it will pull the front derailleur down. And that will make it difficult to adjust the correct height.
Then set the correct height for the derailleur.
Then reattach the cable.
Then index the derailleur.

Try shifting the front derailleur into the smallest chainring (click your gear shifter down)*edit, then adjust the lower limit to be inline with the small chainring. Pull the cable through the derailleur with a pair of pliers to apply tension to the cable then screw it into the derailleur.

Just to ask, is it that when you try to unscrew the fd moves with your tool as if it is shifting to the big cog?

That’s normal. The cable pulls down on the left, which is also the direction that you’re rotating the tool. Use your palm to stabilize it while you break the clamp bolt free, then it’ll be easy to remove the cable. Tightening it is easier because you’re rotating the tool in the opposite direction, so it presses against the stop.
It might be good to ask what you’re trying to loosen it for. Unless it’s very out of adjustment and has never been right you shouldn’t need to loosen it, instead focusing on the limit screws.
