http://www.crosstrainingenduro.com How to ride in ruts! A potential advantage of ruts is extra traction. A tyre-shaped rut allows the side knobs of your rear tyre to get traction. Look ahead during extreme enduro. Choose an alternative line if you think the rut will become too deep. Into enduro riding? See all our dirt bike videos for dirt riding tips. Our channel now had hundreds of dirt bike videos covering reviews, and enduro riding techniques. Search our channel for dirt riding gear too. Our dirt riding tips also include wider topics such as the best dirt riding boots and riding in ruts on enduro bikes. If your footpegs hit the ground, you have one more option in hard enduro ruts. Pull the front wheel into the air, and use careful clutch control to walk through on the rear wheel only. A big problem on uphill sections is when there’s a big ‘step-up’. This is often caused by tree roots when riding in ruts. Get your motorbike into position. Get as much ‘run up’ as possible for enduro skills in ruts. Then bounce on the seat with a controlled drop of the clutch to jump up the obstacle. See our video about ‘Traction tips when stuck’. So, how to ride a dirt bike in ruts? Keep your weight on that rear wheel. If you paddle with your legs, only touch the ground lightly with your boots. Low revs and clutch control will maximise traction and keep you in control. Body position? Sitting on the seat works well in most situations, if you use the right techniques. But it is better to stand on the footpegs if you are riding through extreme enduro ruts fast. Paddle with one leg if required. Sometimes you can’t stand on the footpegs in very deep ruts. You can still weight the rear wheel by putting your boot or knee on the seat. It’s all about traction! I wanted to give you an update. I still spend about fifty hours a week on making all the videos. It’s still enjoyable, but I am amazed at how much time goes into the administrative aspect. Countless phone calls, emails, getting things organised. I probably only ride for about five hours each week to get video footage, then 45 hours goes into video editing and all the administration. Weird. I split the time about 50/50 on the enduro and adventure videos. Occasionally viewers ask if I will start the trials videos again but that would be way too much work! Maybe in another lifetime. I still avoid sponsorship so I can be critical with reviews of motorbikes and products. However, there are offers of free motorbike tours. I have done this already with Vietnam Motorbike Tours and Cambodia Motorbike Tours. That was an easy decision as they are great tours which also support a charity that provides free homes to Cambodian families living in extreme poverty. I do a bit of volunteer work for those guys. I also went to Romania with Carpathian Adventures. Again…. this was an easy decision as it is run by an Australian guy who wanted to give Romanians a better life. He runs it on a non-profit basis but the Romanian guides make a living from the tours. It has transformed their lives so I am keen to support that. Recently I was offered an Australian desert tour with Outback Motorcycle Adventures. This doesn’t support any charity, but they have constant rave reviews from all their customers so I gratefully accepted their offer. There will be upcoming vids about that amazing trip. Next? I hope to ride the Himilayas and Mongolia. The guy who runs tours in Cambodia and Vietnam is expanding so I will hopefully get to ride and film there later this year. Exciting times! The first supporters vid was in 2014, when a group of 10 American viewers urged me to go fulltime and they would provide some financial support. That has grown to 300 supporters now. Combined with Youtube ads, this is enough to keep my head above water. As always, I really appreciate your support!I shall leave you with a short bit of musical enduro. Enjoy!

Down hill ruts?
💪💪👍😎
Are you not using the Clake any longer on the Sherco?
I always try to avoid RUTS i don't want to make the trail worse.
God I want a sherco
I tend to naturally gravitate to ruts. If there is an option of rut with the most loose debris, leaves, rocks, twigs, I'll end up in there. They call me "The rut rider" 😂
Question: Have you noticed a decrease in quality in the motorcycle tires you buy?
I have noticed alot of brands cheapening things up recently and I'm wondering if that's across-the-board or just the companies that I'm buying from.
I know your tried of answering tire questions but I think this is a bigger conversation.
So you like the Shercos over beta? Not many here and as a long time ktm rider thinking of trying something different.
always gets you thinking mate in hills i get in them cant fall lower than the lowest point and momentum if you can keep it going helps immensely too great tips baz 👍
Ruts – a bit of a generalised term for something that can vary from zero to unpassable.
Ultimately, rule out attempts on bikes like a BMW R1200GS.
Just looking at these ruts gives me PTSD!
Those aren't ruts my man, they are fissures in the earth's crust!
This would make me want to come out and fix the trails. I would be miserable riding trails like this. Do you find it fun?!
My wife is a pro at riding her dirtbike in “scooter mode” up the ruts 😆
I’m heavier set and do more of the light walking/bounce for the average ruts and the walking over on the deep ones cuz my foot pegs get buried 😅
Nice vid, thanks for info. Planning on buying an old EXC come spring time here in maine, USA. The snow melt makes for crazy ruts and I'm pumped! Cheers
My KTM 250XCW doesn’t allow you to touch the ground when off center lol you just fall over. Deer height is incredibly high. Only thing I don’t like about the bike
