  1. What they should have done is focus their attention on upgrading the ECML for high speed running up to 140mph as intended during the br era the IET trains the Pendolinos and Voyagers and the Intercity 225's are more then capable of running those speeds and it also give the HS1 trains somewhere to go when they are eventually replaced

  2. This the PM that says China steals our technology? China has 35000 miles of high speed rail in their country and we in uk a failing to build HS2 135 miles from London to Manchester. He is taking the P.

He is making the UK look bad – it is so effing embarrassing.

  3. An unelected prime minister with no mandate went against the will of the British people. Likely because he’s the husband of a billionaire empire and he ideologically wedded to fucking over every normal person in the UK

  4. But, despite its name, it was never about speed. It was about capacity. Capacity so that more people and freight could travel by rail. Cancellation of HS2 is a disaster for the future of the UK. And selling the acquired land is salting the earth.

  5. To be fair, Manchester, Leeds and the surounding region are pretty unimportant to the British economy and England as a whole. Birmingham is actually a big city. I can see why they scrapped it.

  6. This is what a corrupt government does. Those billions were never intended to actually fund HS2, it was only ever meant for Tory back pockets, just like the covid and PPE scandal. Far to many dumb stupid people in this country that continue to vote for them.

  7. Good! It was a pointless white elephant! The saved money can now be better used. (Whether it actually is, is another question, of course)
