People living, working and commuting in Havant can now enjoy better walking and cycling facilities in the town centre. The upgrades include Hampshire’s very first ‘sparrow’ crossing which enables people on bike and foot to cross the road separately and safely with dedicated signal buttons.
The aim has been to create greener connections on Petersfield Road and Elmleigh Road linking to public transport hubs like the railway and bus stations, and beyond to the Portsmouth city area, making door-to-door journeys easier, as well as linking with the popular Hayling Billy Trail. This helps to reduce pollution and encourage more people to leave the car at home.
The £2,155,000 scheme has delivered by Hampshire County Council and funded from the Government’s Transforming Cities Fund in partnership with Havant Borough Council.
