The old bottom bracket was really jammed in there + the drive side cup was all rounded so a wrench couldn’t take it off. I guess an angle grinder was used cut new lines so an adjustable wrench could unscrew it.

It it still usable? It definitly has some imperfections. Mostly is flat and seems like it could seal, expect for one part with a little bit of a divot. Or is the frame just done.

If you think it is still good to put a new bottom bracket in, anyone know if this velo orange BB will fit? I don’t know a whole lot about sizing and compatability. The bike is french threaded.

Also, what length would you suggest. Turning into fixed gear, and I have a 46 tooth crankset I was gonna use.

Any help is appreciated, definitly out of my realm of knowledge here.

  1. Try chasing the threads. If you can thread a BB on it still, I’d give it a go. Just make sure there are no burrs that keep the BB from fully seating on the frame.

It’s steel, not going to implode while riding.

  2. The park tools tap tool has a bracket that keeps everything straight and also has a cutter that will flatten the face where yours is damaged. But it’s several hundred dollars.

  3. It’s clearly an old steel frame you are looking to get some more life out of. A good option to get up and riding might be to file that face as reasonably flat as you can, send one of these in and start riding. Might nit last forever but I’ve hammered one on a fixed gear and it lasted for years. solves both the damage (hopefully) and French thread (for sure) problems in one shot. Good luck!

just saw you were going for a fixed gear. In that case go shortest option. Usually 110mm gets you pretty close enough chainline. That frame is technically ruined depending on who you ask but if you’re trying to get a conversion up and running you can make it work. Have seen and revived worse.
