Are they the same? What job do they do, and when would I really need them? I know they arent replacements to chain lube, but what do they lube that chain lube cant?

honestly don’t think you need any of those to have a well maintained bike, it’s extra consumables your spending on or taking up space in the garage/work shop for something you probably don’t need at all to begin with, the marketing for it thought seems to justify it.
and if for some reason you do need a water displacement spray to flush out water or corrosion preventative spray to prevent corrosion the products already exist (silicone spray, WD-40, Fluid Film, etc) at your local hardware store, it’s just not marketed as “bike specific.”
It just exists so they can sell you disc brake covers and satisfy the monkey brain “can go fschhhh” feeling.
If you do some basic drying after your cleaning they are absolutely not needed.
I think they advertise it as a “do it all” spray, but it’s nothing of the sort. I believe it’s to be sprayed on the frame and/or plastic components to make them shiny and more slippery so dirt slides off. Totally worthless, imo. I bought a cleaning kit from muc off that came with this spray and haven’t used it once.
The only muc off product I’ve liked is their pink cleaning spray. It works great. Not a fan of their lube.. it smells really weird and my chain got way dirtier way faster. Finish line dry lube is the best.
